TUCSON, Ariz. – Dakota State (S.D.) was unable to hold on to their 5-1 lead versus Grace (Ind.) Friday afternoon, kicking off their 10-game slate in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational at the Kino Sports Complex.  The Lancers exploded for five runs in the bottom fifth inning and defeated the Trojans 9-5.

Dakota State dropped to 0-5 overall record.  Grace improved to 5-3 overall record.

The Lancers scored the first run of the game in the opening inning.  Brook Vosler hit a double, followed by Aaron Christenberry's RBI single to score Vosler for GU's 1-0 lead.

DSU scored four runs in the top third frame to grab a 4-1 lead.  Nathan Wieneke opened with a double and Tony Poncia was hit-by-pitch for the Trojans.  Jake Harris hit a 2-RBI double to score Wieneke and Poncia for DSU's first lead of the game at 2-1.

Ian Barker added a single for Dakota State in the top third inning and advanced Harris to third base.  Jamie Jorgensen was hit-by-pitch to set up a bases loaded situation for the Trojans.  After Ryan Schlesser's fielder choice (Harris was out at home), Nick Serrata recorded a 2-RBI single to score Barker and Jorgensen to extend DSU's lead by three runs.

Jordan Entrikin kicked off the top fifth by smashing his first home run this season, extending Dakota State's lead to 5-1.

The Lancers answered back in the bottom fifth inning with five runs scored to overtake the lead from the Trojans.  Grace reached on base by a walk six times in the inning and Frank Rocchio had a 2-RBI double, propelling to their five-run outburst.

Colton Ferrand hit a 3-RBI triple to give Grace another three runs in the bottom seventh, expanding their lead to 9-5.

The Trojans could not score a run in the final inning as they left one runner on base when game ended.

Harris led DSU's offense attach with three hits (two singles and a double) and recorded two RBIs.  Entrikin had a home run and an RBI.  Wieneke and Barker each had two hits.  Serrata had a single and produced two RBIs.

Barker and Harris each swiped one base.

Rocchio had a double, two singles and recorded two RBIs for Grace.  Logan Grigsby earned two hits.  Vosler, Christenberry and Ferrand each had a hit.  Ferrand had three RBIs.

Richard Sternberg started on the pitching mound for the Trojans, working for 4 2/3 innings.  He gave up four runs (one unearned) on four hits.  Brady Wauer (0-1) recorded the loss in relief as he pitched in the bottom fifth inning, allowing two runs.  Anthony Martinez worked for the final out in the fifth inning. Garrison Collier pitched three innings in relief.  He gave up four runs (three runs) on four hits.  He struck out five GU's batters.

CJ Swartz (1-0) picked up the victory for the Lancers.  He pitched five innings and gave up five runs on seven hits.  He struck out four DSU's batters.  Christenberry grabbed his first save of the season as he worked the final four innings in relief.  He limited the Trojans to two hits and recorded seven strikeouts.

DSU left eight runners on base compared to Grace seven runners left on base.

Both teams had nine hits in the game.

Dakota State continues their action Saturday with a doubleheader versus Central Methodist (Mo.) at Kino Sports Complex.
