TUCSON, Ariz. – Dakota State (S.D.), who is searching for their first victory of the season, was swept by Central Methodist (Mo.) Saturday in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational at Kino Sports Complex.  The Eagles posted scores of 6-2 and 8-3 to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Dakota State fell to 0-7 overall record while CMU improved to 7-3 overall record.

Game 1 – Central Methodist (Mo.) 6, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL

Central Methodist scored a least a run in each of the first three innings and held on to a 6-2 game one victory over Dakota State.

After recording the first two outs in the bottom first frame, the Eagles hit four consecutive times to earn a 2-0 lead.  Aldo Adamus and Brad Cuyos hit back-to-back doubles and Dalton Entwistle hit an RBI single to give CMU a two-run cushion.

Adamus added an RBI single in the second inning and Joba Ferrell was hit-by-pitch with bases loaded in the third inning, extending the Eagles' lead to 4-0 by the end of the third inning.

The Trojans ended their scoring drought with a run scored in the top fourth inning.  Dylan Deckert hit a double with two outs.  Ricardo Chagollan produced an RBI single to score Deckert as DSU trimmed CMU's lead to 4-1.

Dakota State added a run in the top fifth frame, thanks to Jake Harris' two-out RBI single to score Nathan Wieneke (reached on fielder's choice and swiped to second base).

Central Methodist scored twice in the bottom fifth inning after starting off with three straight singles from Hayden McMillion, Jake Buhmann (RBI) and Brennan Hurley.  C.J. Regan added an RBI single to expand Eagles' lead to 6-2.

DSU went three-and-out in the final inning as Central Methodist secured the victory.

Tony Poncia and Chagollan each had two singles for the Trojans.  Chagollan collected an RBI.  Deckert recorded a double and a run scored.  Wieneke had a single and a stolen base.  Harris had a single and an RBI.    

Adamus, Cuyos, Logan Bradley and Buhmann each tallied two hits for Central Methodist.  Mike D'Eletto, Regan, Entwistle, McMillon and Hurley each had a hit.  Ferrell, Adamus, Cuyos, Regan, Entwistle and Hurley each had an RBI.

Zac Smith (0-2) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  He worked for four innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.  He recorded three strikeouts.  Jamie Jorgensen pitched in the fifth inning and gave up two runs on four hits.  Anthony Martinez threw a shutout sixth inning in relief for Dakota State.

Ian Walsh (3-0) earned the victory for the Eagles.  He pitched six innings and gave up two runs (one unearned) on eight hits.  Reese Johnson threw a shutout seventh inning in relief.

CMU outhit DSU 13-8 in the game.  The Eagles left 11 runners on base compared to the Trojans six runners left on base.

Game 2 – Central Methodist (Mo.) 8, Dakota State (S.D.) 3 – FINAL

The Eagles jumped to an 8-0 lead through 4-and-half innings of the game and defeated the Trojans 8-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Adamus hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Ferrell, who opened the game with a double, to give CMU a 1-0 lead.

Eli Bowers produced a 2-RBI double to extend Eagles' lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

Central Methodist scored a run in the top fourth inning to make it 4-0 after Austin Fridely's RBI single.

The Eagles' offense exploded for four runs in the top half of the fifth inning as their lead grew to 8-0.

Dakota State broke their scoreless drought in the bottom fifth frame.  Zach Brown opened up with a triple for the Trojans.  Nick Serrata hit an RBI ground out to score Brown, trimming CMU's lead to 8-1.

DSU added another run in the bottom sixth inning.  The Trojans had a bases loaded situation with one out and Chagollan hit an RBI ground out to score Tyler Ratkie (opened the inning with a single). 

Dakota State scored a run in the seventh inning caused by Eagles' defensive error, but it was not enough to make a comeback.  The Trojans left two runners on bases when the game ended.

Ratkie was 2-of-3 at the plate and recorded a stolen base for DSU.  Brown had a triple.  Deckert and Serrata each had a hit.  Chagollan and Serrata each produced an RBI.

Bowers was 3-of-4 with a double, two singles and recorded three RBIs for CMU.  Fridley added two hits and two RBIs.  Ferrell, D'Eletto, Adamus, Bradley, Entwistle, and Chance Sugg each had a hit.

Mitch Bouchard (0-2) recorded the loss for the Trojans.  He gave up seven runs (one unearned) on ten hits.  Bryant Westra pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one unearned run on two hits.  Ian Barker worked a shutout seventh inning on the pitching mound for DSU.

Jeff King (2-0) pitched six innings to earn the victory for Central Methodist.  He gave up two runs on two hits.  Matt Olsen worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief.

CMU outhit DSU 12-5 in the game.  The Trojans left seven runners on bases while the Eagles left six runners on base.

Dakota State looks to end their losing streak Monday as they play a nine-inning game versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) at Kino Sports Complex as part of Tucson Invitational.
