TUCSON, Ariz. – Every Dakota State (S.D.) starters recorded a hit in an 11-3 game one victory over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational at Kino Sports Complex Tuesday.  The Trojans added another victory as they completed a doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

Dakota State lifted their overall record to 2-8.  Olivet Nazarene, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, dropped to 10-4 overall record.

Game 1 – Dakota State (S.D.) 11, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 3 – FINAL

After going through two ties in the opening innings, the Trojans went on to score 10 unanswered runs to earn the first victory of the 2015 season.

The Tigers scored the game's first run in the top first inning.  Jordan Wanner kicked off with a single.  Madison Foster added another single to advance Wanner to second base.  Josh Altmann recorded an RBI single to score Wanner to give ONU a 1-0 lead.

DSU would answered back with a run scored in the bottom half of the first inning.  Jake Harris reached on base with a single with one out.  A wild pitch committed by the Tigers advanced Harris to second base.  Ian Barker was hit-by-pitch and Jordan Entrikin added a single to set up a bases loaded situation for the Trojans.

Ricardo Chagollan hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Harris as Dakota State tied the game at 1-1 in the first inning.

Olivet Nazarene regained their lead at 2-1 in the top second inning caused by DSU's defensive error.  The Tigers extended to 3-1 after Madison Foster's RBI single.

The Trojans scored four runs to grab a two-run lead in the bottom second frame.  Zach Brown and Ryan Schlesser started the inning with back-to-back walks.  Both Brown and Schlesser advanced one base after ONU's wild pitch. 

After JD Farley reached on base by ONU's error to set up a bases loaded situation for DSU, Nathan Wieneke produced an RBI fielder's choice to score Brown to cut Tigers' lead to 3-2 in the second inning.  Harris added an RBI fielder's choice to score Schlesser to tie the game at 3-3.

Barker blasted a 2-RBI triple to score Farley and Harris as the Trojans took a 5-3 lead in the bottom second.

Dakota State's offense exploded for six runs in the bottom fourth inning as their lead ballooned to 11-3.  Wieneke hit a single to open the bottom fourth.  Barker recorded his second triple of the game and scored Wieneke to make it 6-3 in favor of the Trojans.

Entrikin added an RBI ground out, bringing Barker home for a 7-3 DSU lead in the bottom fourth.  Chagollan hit a single and advanced to second base after ONU's wild pitch.  Nick Serrata recorded an RBI single to score Chagollan to extend Trojans' lead to 8-3. 

Zach Brown hit a single in the bottom fourth inning with two outs for Dakota State, advancing Serrata to second base.  DSU made it 9-3 after Schlesser hit an RBI single to score Serrata (advanced Tyler Ratkie – pinch runner for Brown – to second base).  Both Ratkie and Schlesser advanced one base after ONU committed a defensive miscue.

Farley extended Dakota State's lead to 11-3 after hitting a 2-RBI single to score Ratkie and Schlesser in the bottom fourth inning.

Both teams did not score from fifth through seventh innings, securing the game for the Trojans.

Barker was 2-of-3 at the plate with two triples and produced three RBIs for DSU.  Serrata had two singles and an RBI.  Farley recorded a single and two RBIs.  Wieneke, Harris, Entrikin, Chagollan and Schlesser each had a hit and an RBI.  Brown had a single. 

Harris and Schlesser each scored twice in the game for the Trojans.  Wieneke, Barker, Chagollan, Serrata, Brown, Ratkie and Farley each scored once.

Foster was 2-of-4 at the plate with an RBI for Olivet Nazarene.  Wanner, Altmann, Bryan Klendworth and tanner McClain each had a hit.

The Trojans outhit the Tigers 11-6 in the game.  ONU left nine runners on bases while DSU had five runners left on base.

Richard Sternberg (1-1) earned his first career pitching victory for the Trojans.  He worked for five innings on the pitching mound, giving up three runs (one unearned) on four hits.  Sternberg struck out seven ONU's batters.  Bryant Westra pitched two innings in relief and limited the Tigers to two hits.

Garret Bronkema (0-1) took the loss for the Tigers.  He started the game for 1 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (one unearned) on three hits.  Eric Douglass worked for 2 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits.  Parker Shelton pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed one hit.

Game 2 – Dakota State (S.D.) 3, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 1 – FINAL

Dakota State held on to 3-1 victory in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep over Olivet Nazarene, which is the third straight victory for DSU in the series meeting with ONU.

After two scoreless innings, the Trojans earned the first lead of the game in the top third inning.  Wieneke was hit-by-pitch to start the third, followed by Harris' single to advance Wieneke to second base.  Entrikin reached on base with one out to set up a bases loaded situation for DSU.  Chagollan recorded an RBI fielder's choice to score Wieneke to give Dakota State a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers responded back with one run in the bottom half of the third inning.  Jordan Hayes reached on base by a walk with one out.  He swiped to second base.  After Foster was struck out swinging, Altmann hit an RBI single to score Hayes to tie the game at 1-1.

DSU regained their lead back in the fifth inning at 2-1.  Wieneke recorded a walk and advanced to third after Harris' single.  Barker hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Wieneke to give the Trojans a one-run lead.

Dakota State scored another run in the final inning.  Barker hit a single with two outs and swiped to second base.  Entrikin hit an RBI single to score Barker for a 3-1 DSU lead.

The Trojans sealed the victory after the Tigers left a runner on first base, earning DSU's second victory of the season.

Harris, Barker and Ratkie each had two singles for DSU.  Entrikin had a single and an RBI.  Barker swiped one base and recorded an RBI.

Wanner and Altmann each had two hits for ONU.  Steward had a double.  Jeff Szubert and Bryan Klendworth each added a hit.  Altmann had an RBI.

Both teams recorded seven hits in the game.  DSU left eight runners on base.  ONU had seven runners left on base.

Garrison Collier (1-0) notched his first career pitching victory for Dakota State.  He pitched four innings and gave up one run on four hits.  He recorded four strikeouts.  Mitch Bouchard (S, 1) earned the save for DSU.  He worked for three innings in relief and allowed three hits.  Bouchard struck out five Tigers' batters.

Blake Uhlman (2-1) recorded the first loss of the season on the pitching mound for Olivet Nazarene.  He pitched six innings and allowed two runs on five hits.  He had six strikeouts.  Nick Campe worked the seventh inning and gave up a run on two hits.

Dakota State returns back to action on Thursday as they play another doubleheader versus Antelope Valley (Calif.) at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
