TUCSON, Ariz. – Dakota State (S.D.) wrapped up their 11-game stretch in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational at Kino Sports Complex, facing Hastings (Neb) Sunday evening at Kino Sports Complex.  The Broncos jumped to a 6-0 lead and held off the Trojans by the score of 8-4 in a nine-inning game.

Dakota State fell to 3-12 overall record, finishing with a 3-8 record in Tucson Invitational.  Hastings improved to 6-6 overall record.

The Broncos scored three runs in the bottom second inning for the first lead of the game.  Nick Williams led off with a single, followed by Eric Antilla's RBI triple for HC 1-0 lead.  Eric Anderson added an RBI ground out to score Antilla to extend Hastings' lead to 2-0.  Brandon Utrup recorded an RBI single to make it 3-0 Broncos.

Hastings added two runs in the bottom third inning as their lead increased to 5-0.

Antilla hit inside-the-park solo home run in the bottom fifth to expand HC's lead to 6-0.

The Trojans ended their scoring drought in the top half of the sixth inning with two runs scored.  Nathan Wieneke kicked off the sixth inning with a single.  Ian Barker reached on base by a walk and advanced Wieneke to second base.  Jordan Entrikin recorded a 2-RBI double to score Wieneke and Barker as DSU trimmed HC's lead to 6-2.

Hastings made it 7-2 in the bottom sixth frame after Micah Lockerby produced an RBI single.

DSU added two runs in the top seventh inning to reduce their deficit to 7-4, thanks to Jamie Jorgensen's 2-run home run after Ryan Schlesser led off with a single.  It was Jorgensen's first home run during his career at Dakota State.

Grant Kraus hit an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 8-4 in favor of Hastings in the bottom eighth.

The Trojans left one runner on base in the final inning as the Broncos secured the victory.

Schlesser was 3-of-4 at the plate with three singles and one run scored for Dakota State.  Jorgensen added a home run and produced two RBIs.  Wieneke had two singles.  Entrikin had a double and an RBI.  Tyler Ratkie recorded a double.  JD Farley earned a single.  Zach Brown had an RBI. 

Antilla recorded a triple and home run with three RBIs for Hastings.  Anderson added a hit and two RBIs.  Drew Magee, Lockerby, Williams and Ty Neill each had two hits.  Utrup, Kraus and Lockerby each had an RBI.

HC outhit DSU 13-10 in the game.  The Trojans left nine runners on base compared to the Broncos' seven runners left on base.

Richard Sternberg (1-2) took the loss on the pitching mound for the Trojans.  He worked for three innings and allowed five runs (one unearned) on nine hits.  Bryant Westra threw five innings in relief and gave up three runs (one unearned) on four hits.

Nicholas Schuman (2-1) recorded the victory for the Broncos after pitching six-plus innings.  He allowed four runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts.  Nicholas Chavez earned his third save of the season after closing the game in the final three innings, limiting DSU to three hits.

Dakota State returns home Thursday afternoon at Flynn Field for their first home games of the 2015 season.  The Trojans host long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in a doubleheader with the first game of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
