SEWARD, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) and Concordia (Neb.) met for another baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Plum Creek Park.  The Bulldogs completed a four-game series sweep over the Trojans after posting 4-2 and 7-1 victories.

Dakota State fell to 3-18 overall record.  Concordia won their ninth and tenth straight games, raising their overall record to 14-5.

Game 1 – Concordia (Neb.) 4, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL

CUNE's Taylor Bickel outdueled DSU's Bryant Westra in the first game of the doubleheader, with both pitchers tossing complete games.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning after Alex Alstott hit a triple and advanced to home caused by Trojans' defensive error.

Dylan Deckert smashed a solo home run with two outs in the top second frame as Dakota State tied the game at 1-1.

Concordia regained their lead after scoring two runs in the bottom third inning.  Alstott and Taylor Bigandt led off with back-to-back singles.  Kaleb Geiger was hit-by-pitch to set up a bases loaded situation.  Tyler Nelson hit a 2-RBI single to score Alstott and Bigandt to give CUNE a 3-1 lead.

The Trojans answered back with one run scored in the top fourth.  Jamie Jorgensen started the fourth inning with a walk.  Nick Serrata added a single to advance Jorgensen to third base.  Jordan Entrikin produced an RBI to score Jorgensen, cutting CUNE's lead to 3-2.

Bigandt recorded an RBI double in the bottom fifth inning to make it 4-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.

DSU was unable to convert their scoring chances in the top sixth inning after Tyler Ratkie and Ian Barker back-to-back singles.

Dakota State left one runner on base in the final inning as the Bulldogs sealed the victory.

Deckert had a home run and an RBI for the Trojans.  Nathan Wieneke, Ratkie, Baker, Serrata and Ryan Schlesser each recorded a single.  Entrikin had an RBI.

Alstott collected a triple and single with three runs scored for the Bulldogs.  Bigandt added a double, single and an RBI.  Nelson recorded a single and two RBIs.  Taylor Dudley and Casey Berg each had a hit.

CUNE had seven hits in the game compared to the Trojans six hits.  Both teams left five runners on base.

Defensively, Dakota State recorded a pair of double plays by Wieneke (twice), Ratkie, Barker and Entrikin.

Westra (0-2) pitched six innings for DSU.  He gave up four runs (one unearned) on seven hits.  He struck out three CUNE's batters.

Bickel (3-1) earned the victory for CUNE.  He allowed two runs on six hits.  He recorded five strikeouts.

Game 2 – Concordia (Neb.) 7, Dakota State (S.D.) 1 – FINAL

Alstott and Dudley hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 opening lead in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Trojans started the second inning with three consecutive singles by Entrikin, Brady Wauer and Schlesser to set up a bases loaded situation.  JD Farley recorded an RBI fielder's choice to score Entrikin (Danny Lopiparo – courtesy runner for Schlesser – was out at second base) as DSU trimmed CUNE's lead to 2-1.  Concorida prevented DSU to score more runs as they ended the top second inning with a double play.

Berg recorded an RBI sacrifice fly after Dudley led off the bottom fourth with a double (Dudley scored from Berg's RBI) as the Bulldogs' lead grew to 3-1.

Concordia scored three times in the bottom half of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-1.

The Bulldogs made it 7-1 in the sixth inning after Dudley hit an RBI single.

DSU went three-and-out in the final inning as CUNE completed a four-game series sweep.

Wauer was 2-of-3 at the plate with a triple and single for Dakota State.  Entrikin and Schlesser each added a hit.  Farley produced an RBI.  Jorgensen reached on base by a walk three times.

Dudley perfect 4-of-4 at the plate with a double, three singles and recorded three RBIs for Concordia.  Alex Cargin added a double and single.  Cole Stuerke, Geiger and Alstott each had had a hit.  Alstott, Sean McCartney and Berg each had an RBI.

CUNE outhit DSU 9-4.  The Bulldogs left nine runners on base compared to the Trojans seven runners left on base.

Jorgensen (0-2) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for Dakota State.  He tossed 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (two unearned) on seven hits.  Anthony Martinez worked the final out of the fifth inning.  Barker pitched the sixth inning and allowed one run on two hits.

Cade Moring started the game for the Bulldogs and went for 3 2/3 innings.  He allowed one run on four hits.  Mark Harris (1-0) recorded the victory in relief as he pitched a scoreless fourth inning.  John Jay Silva added another 1 1/3 scoreless inning.  Heath Benker tossed the first two outs of the seventh inning.  Edwin Izumigawa closed the game by pitching the final out.

Dakota State swings back in action at home Wednesday afternoon, hosting in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader at Flynn Field.  Stay tuned on the DSU Athletics' website (www.dsuathletics.com) for the game's starting time.
