THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (3-18 overall record, 0-0 North Star Athletic Association conference record) looks to snap their eight-game losing skid as they play six games this week.  The Trojans head to Riverside Park Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader with in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) (15-8) at 2 p.m.  On Saturday and Sunday, DSU returns home at Flynn Field to kick off the NSAA conference season opener versus Valley City State (N.D.) (16-13, 0-0 NSAA).  First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday with a doubleheader on both days.

DSU-MMC FLIP-FLOP HOME GAMES:  Dakota State (S.D.) and Mount Marty (S.D.) flip-flopped their home games Wednesday and next Tuesday (March 31).  The Trojans were originally scheduled to host the Lancers at Flynn Field on Wednesday, had been switched to Riverside Park in Yankton, S.D.  Next Tuesday, Mount Marty will be making a trip to Flynn Field in Madison for a doubleheader.  Both days' doubleheaders are slated for 2 p.m.

NSAA CONFERENCE SEASON OPENER THIS WEEKEND:  All six North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference members will kick off their 20-game conference schedule (10 doubleheaders) this weekend with a four-game series.  Dakota State (S.D.) will host Valley City State (N.D.) with a seven-inning game at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a nine-inning game at Flynn Field.  On Sunday, VCSU-DSU play another doubleheader with a pair of seven-inning games starting at 12 noon.  The Trojans will continue their NSAA conference at home on April 3-4 as they host Dickinson State (N.D.) in a four-game series.

NSAA CONFERENCE PRESEASON COACHES' POLL:  The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its preseason baseball poll in January.  Jamestown (N.D.) was the unanimous pick to win the 2015 league title, voted by the NSAA Baseball head coaches.  Dakota State (S.D.) earned 18 points to finish fourth in the preseason poll.  Mayville State (N.D.) was picked to finish second, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) third.  Dickinson State (N.D.) was selected to finish fifth and Presentation (S.D.) sixth.  The NSAA Baseball Postseason Tournament will be held in Dickinson, N.D. from May 1-4, with the winner advancing to the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round on May 12-15.

WEATHER FORECAST:  According to the weather forecast on (Weather Channel) as of Tuesday, the weather forecast in Yankton, S.D. on Wednesday calls for partly cloudy skies with windy conditions with a 50-degrees forecast high temperature.  The wind comes from the northwest from 15 to 25 miles-per hour.  This weekend in Madison, S.D. calls for partly cloudy skies and windy conditions with the forecast highs in the upper 50's.  The winds are forecast from the south at 15-to-25 miles-per-hour, switching to northwest at 20-to-30 miles-per-hour on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State (S.D.) could not come up with a victory during their six-game stretch last week.  The Trojans, who played their first home games since 2013 season, dropped a pair of home openers on March 19 versus long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) by the scores of 1-0 and 5-4.  DSU was swept by Concordia (Neb.) in a four-game series in Seward, Neb.  The Bulldogs swept the doubleheaders 9-1 and 12-2 on March 21 and 4-2 and 7-1 on March 22.  Mount Marty (S.D.) had won seven straight games before entering Wednesday's game versus DSU.  The Lancers started the winning streak with a 14-4 victory over Valley City State (N.D.) on March 16 and extended their winning streak with a six-game series sweep over Winnipeg (Manitoba) from March 20-22.  Valley City State wrapped up their Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational with a 4-5 record after winning a pair of games on March 22.  The Vikings defeated Williams (Mass.) 15-3 and Middlebury (Vt.) 12-1 to conclude their Tucson trip. 

LAST MEETING:  Mount Marty (S.D.) won two of three meetings with Dakota State (S.D.) last season, with all three games played at Riverside Park in Yankton.  The Lancers won a nine-inning game by the score of 4-1 on March 26, 2014.  The Lancers and Trojans split a doubleheader on April 9, 2014 with DSU winning the first game 6-4 and MMC winning the second game 10-5.  The last time Valley City State and Dakota State met was in the NAIA Unaffiliated NSAA/Frontier Conference Postseason Tournament in Valley City, N.D. on May 2, 2014.  The Vikings rallied back for an 8-7 thrilling victory in 11 innings.  VCSU trailed 7-6 heading in the bottom ninth inning and came back to tie the game after scoring a run, extending the game into extra innings.  The Vikings scored the winning run in the bottom 11th inning with two outs. 

TEAM LEADERS:  Jake Harris leads the Trojans' offense attack a batting average of .368.  He is 21-of-57 at the plate with a slugging percentage of .439 (four doubles).  Harris also leads the team with 14 runs batted in (RBIs).  Ian Barker leads DSU with 22 hits, including three triples (31st-most triples in the nation).  Nathan Wieneke and Barker both swipes two bases this season for Dakota State.  Jamie Jorgensen leads the team with two home runs.  Mitch Bouchard leads the team with earned run average (ERA) with 5.57 (13 earned runs) in 21 innings pitched and averages 5.1 strikeouts per nine inning.  Richard Sternberg leads the team in strikeouts with 14 from the pitching mound for DSU.
