THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (6-21 overall record) continues their home stand Tuesday afternoon as they host their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) (18-11) in a non-conference doubleheader.  The doubleheader kicks off at 3:30 p.m. at Flynn Field.  The Trojans head on the road for a 9-inning game at Briar Cliff (Iowa) (16-10-1) Wednesday afternoon.  First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Bishop Mueller Field in Sioux City, Iowa.

WESTRA NAMED NSAA BASEBALL PITCHER-OF-THE WEEK:  Bryant Westra of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected by the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) as its Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week, the conference office announced Monday.  He earned a save and a victory as DSU kicked off the NSAA conference season with a four-game series split with Valley City State (N.D.) at Flynn Field.  Westra earned a save in the second game of the series after pitching in the seventh inning, allowing a hit in a 5-4 DSU's victory.  He tossed a complete game victory for his first pitching win of the season after defeating VCSU 9-3 in the third game of the series.  For the week, Westra worked for eight innings and allowed three runs on nine hits.  He recorded six strikeouts and did not give up a walk.  Westra posted an earned run average of 3.38 in a pair of games last weekend.

TROJANS KICK OFF NSAA CONFERENCE WITH SPLIT:  Dakota State (S.D.) started the 2015 North Star Athletic Association conference season with a four-game series split with Valley City State (N.D.) on March 28-29 at Flynn Field.  The Trojans and Vikings split a doubleheader on each day.  VCSU won the opener on March 28 by the score of 8-6, but DSU bounced back with a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.  The Trojans won their second straight game with a 9-3 game one victory on March 29.  The Vikings wrapped up the four-game series with an 8-2 victory over the Trojans to gain a split.

SIX-WAY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE IN NSAA CONFERENCE:  All six North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) members completed their four-game series last weekend, resulting in a four-game series split for a six-way tie for first place in the NSAA Baseball standings with a 2-2 conference record.  Valley City State (N.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.) split their doubleheader on March 28 and 29 at Flynn Field.  Dickinson State (N.D.) opened up the conference season with a sweep over Presentation (S.D.) on March 28, but the Saints swept the Blue Hawks with a pair of 8-7 victories on March 29.  Jamestown (N.D.) split a doubleheader with Mayville State (N.D.) on March 28 in Redfield, S.D. and completed with another doubleheader split Monday (today) in Mayville, N.D.  All six NSAA members have 16 remaining conference games in the next month and return back to action on Friday and Saturday with the Trojans hosting the Blue Hawks at Flynn Field.  Also on Friday and Saturday, Mayville State heads to Presentation in Aberdeen, S.D. and Jamestown visit their rival Valley City State in Valley, N.D.

WEATHER FORECAST:  According to the weather forecast on (Weather Channel) as of Monday, the weather forecast in Madison on Tuesday calls for sunny skies with a 68-degrees forecast high temperature.  The wind comes from the west from 5-to-15 miles-per hour, increasing to 20-miles-per-hour win by Tuesday night.  On Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa, the weather forecast calls for party cloudy skies with a possibility of a thunderstorm in the afternoon with a high temperature near 80 degrees.  The win will come from the south, up to 25-miles-per-hour.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State (S.D.) went 3-3 record for the week last week, earning a doubleheader split at Mount Marty (S.D.) in Yankton on March 25.  The Trojans won the first game 3-1 and the Lancers earned a 15-3 victory in the second game.  DSU went 2-2 versus Valley City State (N.D.) in the NSAA's conference opening weekend.  Mount Marty went 2-2 record in Great Plains Athletic Conference play at Doane (Neb.) on March 28 and Concordia (Neb.) on March 29, splitting a doubleheader on each day.  Briar Cliff (Iowa) went 5-1 record for the week (3-1 in GPAC conference play), including a home doubleheader sweep over Grand View (Iowa) on March 26 and Midland (Neb.) on March 28.  The Chargers split a doubleheader at Hastings (Neb.) on March 29, snapping BC's 8-game winning streak.

LAST MEETING:  Dakota State (S.D.) snapped their eight-game losing skid with a doubleheader with Mount Marty (S.D.) at Riverside Park on March 25.  The Trojans won the first game 3-1.  Trailing 3-0 in the second game and entering the bottom second inning, the Lancers outscored the Trojans 15-0 to gain a 15-3 victory.  Briar Cliff (Iowa) won the last meeting with the Trojans on March 9 as part of the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Games.  The game was tied at 2-2 in the first inning, but the Chargers outscored DSU 15-2 for the rest of the game to record a 17-4 victory.

TEAM LEADERS:  Jake Harris leads the Trojans' offense attack a batting average of .382.  He is 29-of-76 at the plate with a slugging percentage of .553 (seven doubles and two home runs).  Harris also leads the team with 18 runs batted in (RBIs).  Ian Barker leads DSU with three triples (39th-most triples in the nation).  Barker and Nathan Wieneke swipe two bases this season for Dakota State.  Jamie Jorgensen leads the team with three home runs.  Bryant Westra leads the team with earned run average (ERA) with 3.25 (10 earned runs) in 27 2/3 innings pitched.  Mitch Bouchard averages 5.5 strikeouts per nine inning for Dakota State (28 innings pitched this season).  Richard Sternberg leads the team in strikeouts with 20 from the pitching mound for DSU (26 innings pitched).

UP NEXT:  Dakota State (S.D.) returns home for a six-game home stand, starting with the NSAA's conference four-game series on Friday and Saturday versus Dickinson State (N.D.).  The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.  The Trojans conclude their home stand on next Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader versus Winnipeg (Canada).
