THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (7-23 overall record, 2-2 North Star Athletic Association conference record) returns back to NSAA action Friday and Saturday at Flynn Field, hosting Dickinson State (N.D.) (10-15, 2-2 NSAA) in a four-game series in Madison, S.D.  The doubleheader kicks off at 1 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.  The Trojans conclude their 13-game home stand with a non-conference doubleheader versus Winnipeg (Canada) on Tuesday at Flynn Field.  Stay tuned to the DSU Athletics website for the starting time.

WESTRA NAMED NSAA BASEBALL PITCHER-OF-THE WEEK:  Bryant Westra of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected by the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) as its Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week, the conference office announced Monday.  He earned a save and a victory as DSU kicked off the NSAA conference season with a four-game series split with Valley City State (N.D.) at Flynn Field.  Westra earned a save in the second game of the series after pitching in the seventh inning, allowing a hit in a 5-4 DSU's victory.  He tossed a complete game victory for his first pitching win of the season after defeating VCSU 9-3 in the third game of the series.  For the week, Westra worked for eight innings and allowed three runs on nine hits.  He recorded six strikeouts and did not give up a walk.  Westra posted an earned run average of 3.38 in a pair of games last weekend.

TROJANS KICK OFF NSAA CONFERENCE WITH SPLIT:  Dakota State (S.D.) started the 2015 North Star Athletic Association conference season with a four-game series split with Valley City State (N.D.) on March 28-29 at Flynn Field.  The Trojans and Vikings split a doubleheader on each day.  VCSU won the opener on March 28 by the score of 8-6, but DSU bounced back with a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.  The Trojans won their second straight game with a 9-3 game one victory on March 29.  The Vikings wrapped up the four-game series with an 8-2 victory over the Trojans to gain a split.

SIX-WAY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE IN NSAA CONFERENCE:  All six North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) members completed their four-game series last weekend, resulting in a four-game series split for a six-way tie for first place in the NSAA Baseball standings with a 2-2 conference record.  Valley City State (N.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.) split their doubleheader on March 28 and 29 at Flynn Field.  Dickinson State (N.D.) opened up the conference season with a sweep over Presentation (S.D.) on March 28, but the Saints swept the Blue Hawks with a pair of 8-7 victories on March 29.  Jamestown (N.D.) split a doubleheader with Mayville State (N.D.) on March 28 in Redfield, S.D. and completed with another doubleheader split Monday (today) in Mayville, N.D.  All six NSAA members have 16 remaining conference games in the next month and return back to action on Friday and Saturday with the Trojans hosting the Blue Hawks at Flynn Field.  Also on Friday and Saturday, Mayville State heads to Presentation in Aberdeen, S.D. and Jamestown visit their rival Valley City State in Valley, N.D.

WEATHER FORECAST:  According to the weather forecast on (Weather Channel) as of Thursday, the weather forecast in Madison, S.D. for Friday calls for partly cloudy skies with a high temperate of near 50 degrees.  The wind forecast comes from the northwest at 10-to-20-miles per hour.  On Saturday, the high temperature will rise to the mid-60's with mostly sunny skies.  The winds will switch to the south-southwest at 10-to-20-miles-per-hour.  On Tuesday, the weather forecast predicts a chance of showers with a high temperate of 44 degrees (winds from the east-northeast up to 20-miles-per-hour). 

TROJANS WIN WITH WALK-OFF RBI WALK:  Dakota State (S.D.) rallied back for a game two victory over in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on March 31 at Flynn Field.  Trailing by one run heading into the bottom seventh inning, Brady Wauer reached on base by a walk with one out, followed by Richard Sternberg's single to advance Wauer to second base.  Jamie Jorgensen ripped an RBI double to score Wauer to tie the game.  Jordan Entrikin was given an intentional walk to set up a bases loaded situation for the Trojans.  Pinch-hitter Tyler Ratkie reached on base by a walk and recorded a game-winning RBI to score Sternberg for a 5-4 victory. 

LAST TIME OUT:  The Trojans are 1-2 record this week prior to the NSAA's four-game series on Friday and Saturday.  Dakota State (S.D.) earned a doubleheader split with in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) at Flynn Field on March 31.  The Lancers rallied back from 3-0 deficit for an 8-6 game one victory.  The Trojans came back in the second game and earned a 5-4 thrilling victory, resulting in a season's four-game series split with MMC.  Dickinson State (N.D.) opened up the NSAA conference play last weekend in Dickinson, N.D., gaining a four-game series split with Presentation (S.D.).  The Blue Hawks swept the Saints on NSAA conference opener 2-1 and 15-10 on March 28, but were swept by PC on March 29 by a pair of 8-7 scores.   Winnipeg lost four games against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), losing in a doubleheader at Morningside (Iowa) 6-1 and 9-4 on March 30 and at Doane (Neb.) 10-3 and 8-1 on March 31.  

LAST MEETING:  Dakota State (S.D.) swept all four games with Dickinson State (N.D.) in both teams last meeting as part of NSAA/Frontier conference games in Minot, N.D. on April 5-6, 2014.  The Trojans won a pair of doubleheaders on April 5, 2014 by the scores of 3-2 and 9-3.  Dakota State added 14-3 and 6-4 victories over Dickinson State on April 6, 2014.  The Trojans won a pair of slugfest games against Winnipeg (Canada) as part of the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational on March 14, 2014.  Dakota State posted 15-11 and 11-8 victories over the Wesmen.

TEAM LEADERS:  Jake Harris leads the Trojans' offensive attack with 33 hits and a batting average of .393.  He also leads the team in runs batted in with 19 (0.7 RBIs per game).  Ian Barker and Nathan Wieneke each swipe two baes for Dakota State (S.D.).  Barker ranks 42nd in the nation in total triples with three.  Mitch Bouchard records an earned run average (ERA) of 4.80, allowing 16 earned runs in 30 innings pitched).  Richard Sternberg leads the Trojans with 20 strikeouts from the pitching mound.
