MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) continued their 13-game baseball home stand Friday afternoon as they returned back to North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference, hosting Dickinson State (N.D.) at Flynn Field.  Mitch Bouchard, despite giving up a solo home run in the top fourth inning, tossed a complete game one as the Trojans held off the Blue Hawks by the score of 2-1.  DiSU went on to win the second game (9-inning game) by the score of 10-0 in seven innings to earn a doubleheader split.

Dakota State is 8-24 overall record, while Dickinson State is 11-16 overall record.  Both teams are 3-3 NSAA conference record.

Game 1 – Dakota State (S.D.) 2, Dickinson State (N.D.) 1 – FINAL

The first game of the four-game series featured a pitcher's duel between Blue Hawk Joey Buchanan and Trojan Bouchard.  Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings of the game.

Jordan Tescher led off with a solo home run in the top fourth inning as Dickinson State grabbed the first lead of the game at 1-0.

Dakota State answered back with a run scored in the bottom fourth frame to knot the game at 1-1.  Jordan Entrikin hit a double to deep right-center.  Jamie Jorgensen hit a single and advanced Entrikin to third base, but on the same play, the Blue Hawks' defense committed an error to allow Entrikin score.

The Trojans added a run in the bottom fifth to break the 1-1 tie into a 2-1 lead.  After two outs were recorded, JD Farley and Tyler Ratkie had back-to-back walks.  Tony Poncia hit an RBI double to score Farley to give DaSU a one-run lead.

The Blue Hawks went three-and-out in the final inning as the Trojans secured the victory, their fifth straight win in the series meeting with Dickinson State.

Poncia had a double and an RBI for Dakota State.  Entrikin added a double.  Jorgensen recorded a single and a walk.  Farley reached on base-on-balls twice. 

Tescher had a home run and an RBI for Dickinson State.  Dylan Skabo and Tyler Czech each added a hit.

Both teams had three hits in the game.  The Trojans left five runners on base while the Blue Hawks had two runners left on base.

Bouchard (2-3) pitched seven innings to pick up the victory for DaSU. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out six DiSU's batters.  He did not give up a walk in the game.

Buchanan (2-2) recorded the loss for the Blue Hawks.  He worked for 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one unearned) on three hits.  Josh Schuller tossed 2/3 shutout innings.

Game 2 – Dickinson State (N.D.) 10, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

The Blue Hawks pound out with 19 hits in the second game of the doubleheader to shut down the Trojans 10-0.

With bases loaded and one out situation in the top second inning for the Blue Hawks, Ryan Mitchell hit an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Jacob Hignite for a 1-0 lead.

Dickinson State added two runs in the third inning.  Skabo led off with a single and swiped to second base.  Tescher hit a ground out to advance Skabo to third base.  Eric Seiler recorded an RBI ground out to score Skabo, extending DiSU's lead to 2-0.

After Hignite hit a double in the top third frame, Jeff Vancleave produced an RBI single to score Hignite as the Blue Hawks' lead grew to 3-0.

DiSU made it 4-0 in the fourth inning after Seiler's RBI single to score Tescher, who hit a single with two outs and stole for second.

Dickinson State exploded for five runs in the four runs in the fifth inning, expanding their lead to 9-0.  The Blue Hawks had six hits in the innings, thanks to four consecutive hits with singles from Ryan Mitchell, Landon Briscoe, Skabo and a double by Tescher.

Mitchell hit an RBI sacrifice fly to give DiSU a 10-0 lead in the top sixth inning.

Dakota State was unable to extend the game after they went three-and-out in the bottom seventh frame.

The Trojans had four hits in the game.  Jake Harris had a double and recorded two walks.  Poncia, Jorgensen and Richard Sternberg each added a single.

Ryan Risse was 4-for-4 at the plate for the Blue Hawks.  Tescher added two doubles, single and an RBI.  Skabo had two singles and two RBIs.  Hignite collected three hits and two RBIs.  Seiler had two hits and two RBIS.  Mitchell recorded a single and two RBIs.  Vancleave and John Hollingsworth each added a hit.  Tescher and Skabo each swiped one base.

Dickinson State left 11 runners on base.  Dakota State had seven runners left on base.

Zac Smith (0-5) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for DaSU.  He pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.  Taylor Boerger worked for 1 2/3 innings in relief and gave up four runs on six hits.  Danny Lopiparo pitched for two outs and allowed two runs on three hits.  Luke Gassman pitched the last two innings in relief, allowing a run on three hits.

Tony Roberts (2-1) earned the victory after tossing five innings for DiSU.  He allowed four hits and recorded three strikeouts.  Chas Allen pitched two shutout innings in relief.

Dakota State and Dickinson State conclude their NSAA's four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader.  The first game is slated to kick off at 12 noon at Flynn Field.
