THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (9-25 overall record, 4-4 North Star Athletic Association conference record) travels to North Dakota for a pair of opponents this week.  The Trojans step aside their conference regular-season play with a nine-inning game at NCAA Division I North Dakota State (7-18) Wednesday evening.  First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.  DSU returns back to NSAA conference action for a four-game series at Jack Brown Stadium, visiting Jamestown (N.D.) this weekend.  The doubleheaders are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday in Jamestown, N.D.

TROJANS IN FOUR-WAY TIE FOR SECOND IN NSAA CONFERENCE:  After the second weekend of North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) baseball's four-game series, Mayville State (N.D.) retains the sole possession for first place in the conference standings with a 5-3 record after taking three of four games with Presentation (S.D.).  Four NSAA members are in a four-way tie after splitting their four-game series last weekend, including Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Jamestown (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.).  Those four teams have a 4-4 record in the conference standings.  Presentation is sixth with 3-5 record.  This weekend's four-game series feature Dakota State taking on Jamestown in Jamestown (N.D.), Valley City State visiting Presentation in Aberdeen, S.D. and Dickinson State hosting Mayville State in Dickinson, N.D.

STELLAR PITCHING:  Three Dakota State starting pitchers tossed a complete game during the four-game series with Dickinson State (N.D.) at Flynn Field on April 3-4.  Despite after giving up a solo home run in the series opener on April 3, Mitch Bouchard retired the last 12 Dickinson State batters as the Trojans held on to a 2-1 victory.  He gave up a run on three hits and recorded six strikeouts from the pitching mound for Dakota State.  Bryant Westra also pitched a complete game in the third game of the series, but fell short by the score of 3-2 to the Blue Hawks after giving up a run in the first three innings.  He retired 12 of the last 13 Blue Hawks' batters after giving up three runs on seven hits.  Westra recorded six strikeouts.  Dakota State bounced back in the final game of the four-game series after Richard Sternberg pitched a complete game victory.  After giving up a run and three hits in the first inning, Sternberg retired 19 of the last 20 Dickinson State's batters for a 9-1 win.

WEATHER FORECAST:  According to the weather forecast on (Weather Channel) as of Tuesday, the weather forecast in Fargo, N.D. for Wednesday calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high temperate of 54 degrees.  The wind forecast comes from the east at 5-to-15-miles-per-hour.  In Jamestown, N.D., the weather forecast calls for dry conditions as the temperatures will be rising in the upper 60's.  The wind forecast comes from the south at 10-to-20-miles-per-hour on Saturday, switching to west-northwest at 10-to-20-miles-per-hour on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State (S.D.) concluded their 11-game home stand with a 3-4 record last week.  The Trojans split a doubleheader with in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on March 31, falling short in the first game 8-6 and bouncing back for a walk-off RBI walk for a 5-4 victory in the second game.  DSU fell to Briar Cliff (Iowa) 5-4 in 11 innings on April 1.  Dakota State won the four-game series opener with Dickinson State (N.D.) on April 3 by the score of 2-1, but was shut out by the Blue Hawks 10-0 in the second game.  DiSU won 3-2 in the third game of the series on April 4, while the Trojans closed the four-game series by cruising to a 9-1 victory.  North Dakota State went 1-2 record in their Summit League's three-game series in Fort Wayne, Ind.  The Bison fell to IPFW 4-3 11 innings on April 3 and was shut out 8-0 on April 4.  NDSU won the final game of the series with an 18-7 victory.  Jamestown (N.D.) went 3-2 record last week, including a 6-0 shut out victory over Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) in their first home game of the season on March 31.  The Jimmies swept a doubleheader at Valley City State (N.D.) 5-3 and 13-11 on April 3, but lost a pair of games to the Vikings on April 4 by the scores of 4-1 and 3-2 to gain a four-game series in NSAA conference action.  Jamestown swept a doubleheader on the first day by the score of 8-3 and 16-0 while the Trojans came back to earn a doubleheader split on the second day.  The Jimmies held on to a 2-1 victory in the third game of the series but Dakota State won the final game of the series by the score of 6-5.

LAST MEETING:  Wednesday's game between Dakota State (S.D.) and North Dakota State will be their third-ever meeting in series history.  The last time both teams met was on April 2, 1996 where NDSU swept a doubleheader in Madison, S.D.  The Bison posted scores of 11-0 and 16-0 over the Trojans.  Dakota State and Jamestown (N.D.) met in the second round of the NAIA Unaffiliated Baseball Qualifying Postseason Tournament in Valley City, N.D. on May 3, 2014.  The Jimmies won by the score of 8-3 to end Trojans' 2014 season.  Both teams played in a four-game series in Lennox, S.D. from April 18-19, 2014 where UJ went 3-1 record. 

TEAM LEADERS:  Jake Harris leads the Trojans' offense by posting a batting average of .396 with 36 hits in 91 at-bats.  He also leads the team in runs batted in with 20 (0.7 RBIs per game).  Tony Poncia, Ian Barker, Nathan Wieneke and Tyler Ratkie each swipe two bases.  Bryant Westra leads the team in earned run average (ERA) of 3.47 (14 earned runs in 36 1/3 innings).  He also leads the NSAA conference in earned run average.  Mitch Bouchard and Richard Sternberg each lead the team with 25 strikeouts from the pitching mound for Dakota State.
