FARGO, N.D. – The Dakota State University baseball team step aside their North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference play, visiting NCAA Division I North Dakota State Wednesday evening at Newman Outdoor Field.  The Bison used a pair of 4-run innings and defeated the Trojans by the score of 9-1.

Dakota State fell to 9-26 overall record.  North Dakota State, playing in their home opener, improved to 8-18 overall record.

After two-and-half scoreless innings, NDSU scored four runs in the bottom third frame to grab a 4-0 lead.  The Bison added a run in the bottom fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.

The Trojans snapped their scoring drought with a run scored in the top sixth inning, trimming NDSU's lead to 5-1.  The Bison answered back with four runs in the bottom fourth inning for 9-1 lead.

Jordan Entrikin went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles and a run scored for Dakota State.  Ryan Schlesser had an RBI.  Tyler Ratkie, Jamie Jorgensen and Jake Harris each had a hit.

Brayden Resch and Taylor Sanders each had three hits for North Dakota State.  John Skrbec added two hits and collected three RBIs.  Ben Peterson recorded two hits and two RBIs.

NDSU outhit DSU 13-5 in the game.  Both teams left nine runners on base.

Richard Sternberg (3-4) recorded the loss for the Trojans.  He pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits.  He recorded four strikeouts.  Garrison Collier tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up a run on two hits.  Anthony Martinez worked for one out and gave up four runs on three hits.  Bryant Westra pitched the final two outs of the sixth inning, limiting the Bison to one hit.  Zac Smith pitched two scoreless inning and gave up a hit.

Black Stockert (1-1) earned the victory on the pitching mound for North Dakota State.  He pitched three innings and gave up one hit.  Kevin Folman worked for two innings in relief and allowed two hits.  Colin Baumgard tossed the sixth inning and allowed one run on two hits.  Trevor Jaunich worked two scoreless innings while Jay Flaa closed the game in the ninth inning.

Dakota State swings back in NSAA conference action this weekend.  The Trojans continue their 13-game road stretch as they visit Jamestown (N.D.) at Jack Brown Stadium for a four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
