JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Prior entering Saturday's baseball doubleheader at Jack Brown Stadium, Dakota State (S.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) were in a four-way tie for second place in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference standings.  The Jimmies took the first two games of the NSAA four-game series by the scores of 4-0 and 5-1.

Dakota State fell to 9-28 overall record and 4-6 NSAA conference record.  Jamestown improved to 16-13 overall record and 6-4 NSAA record.

Game 1 – Jamestown (N.D.) 4, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

The Trojans collected three hits in the opening inning, but could not convert their scoring chances.  UJ scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth inning as they prevailed for a 4-0 game one victory.

Jamestown hit three doubles by Tyler Ludlow, Erik Peterson and Marcus Blackmon, Jr. for a 2-0 lead in the bottom second inning.

The Jimmies extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom fifth inning after two runs scored.

DSU left a runner on second base in the final inning as the Jimmies held on to the victory.

Tyler Ratkie, Jake Harris and Jordan Entrikin each had a single for the Trojans.  Tony Poncia reached on base by a walk once. 

Jamestown collected four doubles in the game with a piece from Ludlow, Peterson, Blackmon, Jr. and Kory Wolden.  Matthew Achter, Ludlow, Blackmon, Jr. and Rudy Strnad each had an RBI.

UJ outhit DSU 9-3 in the game.  The Jimmies left eight runners on base compared to the Trojans four runners left on base.

Mitch Bouchard (2-4) recorded the loss for Dakota State.  He tossed five innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.  Bouchard struck out four UJ's batters.  Zac Smith worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief.

Tanner Dahl (4-2) pitched a complete game victory for Jamestown.  He gave up three hits – all in the first innings – and held the Trojans hitless in the last six innings of the game.  Dahl recorded four strikeouts.

Game 2 – Jamestown (N.D.) 5, Dakota State (S.D.) 1 – FINAL

The Jimmies opened up with a 2-0 lead in the second game (9-inning game) of the four-game series and held on to a 5-1 victory.

UJ earned the first lead of the game in the bottom first inning.  Wolden reached on base by DSU's defensive error.  He advanced to second base after Achter recorded a ground out.  A pair of wild pitches by Dakota State allowed Wolden to score to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead.

The Jimmies added another run in the bottom second frame.  Lance Ibesate hit a single with two outs.  Wolden produced an RBI double to score Ibesate as UJ's lead grew to 2-0.

The Trojans broke their scoring drought with a solo home run by Entrikin in the top sixth inning to cut Jimmies' lead to 2-1.  It was his second home run this season for Entrikin.

Jamestown added two runs in the bottom seventh inning to make it 4-1.

The Jimmies made it 5-1 after DSU committed a defensive miscue in the bottom eighth inning.

Dakota State left a runner on base in the final inning as UJ secured the victory.

Entrikin had a home run and an RBI for the Trojans.  Richard Sternberg and Nick Serrata each added two singles.  Harris, Jamie Jorgensen and JD Farley each had a hit.  Ratkie, Nathan Wieneke and Farley reached on base by a walk.

Wolden had a double and an RBI for the Jimmies.  Ludlow and Ibesate each had two hits.  Blackmon, Jr. had a double. 

Dakota State outhit Jamestown 8-6.  The Trojans left nine runners on base while the Jimmies had seven runners left on base.

Bryant Westra (1-5) recorded the loss for DSU.  He tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs (one unearned) on three hits.  Smith worked for 5 1/3 innings in relief and gave up two runs on two hits.  He recorded five strikeouts.  Jordan Lerdal pitched in the eighth inning, giving up an unearned run on one hit.

Jason Shaw (3-0) earned the victory for UJ.  He pitched six innings and gave up one run on five hits.  Julien Garcia worked for two innings in relief and allowed three hits and two walks.  Ryan Sheeley tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Dakota State and Jamestown finish their NSAA conference four-game series Sunday afternoon at Jack Brown Stadium.  First game of the doubleheader is set for 12 noon.
