GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (10-29 overall record, 5-7 North Star Athletic Association conference record) continues their 13-game road stretch with five games this week.  The Trojans visit NCAA Division I South Dakota State (21-13) Wednesday afternoon in Brookings, S.D.  First pitch for a nine-inning non-conference game is set for 3 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.  On Saturday and Sunday, DSU travels to Scott Berry Field for the NSAA's four-game series with conference leader Mayville State (N.D.) (24-15, 9-3 NSAA).  The games will be held in Mayville, N.D. with the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday.

TROJANS STAY BUSY ON ROAD:  Dakota State (S.D.) continues their 13-game road stretch with five games this week.  The Trojans kicked off their road stretch with a nine-inning game at North Dakota State on April 8 and continued with a four-game North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference series at Jamestown (N.D.) on April 11-12.  This week, Dakota State visits NCAA Division I South Dakota State Wednesday and returns back to NSAA conference action this weekend with a four-game series at Mayville State (N.D.).  The Trojans conclude their 13-road stretch against a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference foes next week, visiting Briar Cliff (Iowa) for a nine-inning game on April 21 in Sioux City, Iowa and a doubleheader with long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on April 22 in Mitchell, S.D.

NORTH STAR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION STANDINGS:  Mayville State (N.D.) holds a two-game lead in the latest North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Baseball conference standings.  The Comets have a NSAA conference record of 9-3, followed by second-place team from Jamestown (N.D.) with a 7-5 record.  Valley City State (N.D.) is third with 6-6 NSAA record.  Dakota State (S.D.) and Presentation (S.D.) are tired for fourth with a 5-7 conference record.  Dickinson State (N.D.) is sixth with a 4-8 NSAA record.  The NSAA Baseball Postseason Conference Tournament kicks off on May 1 and runs through May 4, hosted by Dickinson State.  The winner of the conference postseason tournament moves on to the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round on May 11-14 on nine different sites announced by the NAIA.

WEATHER FORECAST:  According to the weather forecast on www.weather.com (Weather Channel) as of Wednesday, the weather forecast in Brookings, S.D. for Wednesday calls for partly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 65 degrees.  The wind forecast comes from the south-southeast at 20-to-30-miles-per-hour.  In Mayville, N.D. this weekend, the weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a high temperature in the upper 60's on Saturday.  There is a chance of rain on Sunday morning along with windy conditions with a high temperature of 57 degrees.  The wind forecast comes from the south-southeast at 10-to-20 miles-per-hour on Saturday, increasing to 15-to-25 miles-per-hour from he west-northwest on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State (S.D.) went 1-4 record last week.  The Trojans lost to North Dakota State 9-1 in a nine-inning game on April 8 in Fargo, N.D.  DSU returned back to NSAA conference action at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, N.D., earning one victory in the four-game series.  Dakota State lost the first two games by the scores of 4-0 and 5-1 on April 11.  The Trojans bounced back in the winning column with a 9-4 victory in the third game of the series after racing to a 5-0 opening lead on April 12.  Jamestown (N.D.) closed the four-game series with a 10-5 victory after holding off Trojans' late comeback.  South Dakota State kicked off their 10-game home stand with a 5-0 record after sweeping Winnipeg (Manitoba) 5-2 and 11-1 on April 8.  The Jackrabbits added another sweep with a three-game series over Summit's foe North Dakota State 5-4 on April 11, 13-5 on April 11 and 13-5 on April 12.  Mayville State (N.D.) won all four games in the NSAA's four-game series at Dickinson State (N.D.) last weekend.  The Comets opened up the series with a 5-4 and 19-8 victories on April 11 and added another doubleheader sweep 14-11 and 12-1 on April 12 in Dickinson, N.D.  MSU had won 10 times in the last 11 games (lost at Presentation, S.D. 13-1 in the final game of the four-game series on April 4).

LAST MEETING:  South Dakota State used 16 hits to defeat Dakota State (S.D.) 11-1 in a nine-inning game at Erv Huether Field on April 23, 2014 in Brookings, S.D.  Mayville State (N.D.) and Dakota State played their inaugural North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) four-game series last year in Wayne, Neb. on March 29-30, 2014.  The Trojans opened up with a 5-4 victory, rallying back from a 4-0 deficit.  DSU scored four times in the bottom fourth inning and completed the comeback with the winning run in the bottom seventh inning with one out remaining.  The Comets came back and win the next three games in the series, defeating the Trojans 12-0 on March 29 and swept the doubleheader on March 30 by the scores of 4-1 and 3-0.

TEAM LEADERS:  Jake Harris leads Dakota State's offensive attach with a batting average of .402 this season.  He collected 43 hits in 107 plate appearances for the Trojans, including eight doubles and two home run for a slugging percentage of .533.  Harris also leads DSU with 25 runs batted in (RBIs), averaging 0.7 RBIs per game.  Jamie Jorgensen records three home run to lead DSU this season.  Ian Barker have three triples this season.  Tyler Ratkie and Tony Poncia each lead the Trojans with three stolen bases.  Mitch Bouchard posts an earned run average (ERA) of 4.29 and leads the team with 29 strikeouts (6.2 strikeouts per nine innings).  He gave up 20 earned runs in 42 innings pitched.

UP NEXT:  Dakota State (S.D.) heads into their final week of regular-season play with a busy schedule.  The Trojans continue their 13-game road trip with a nine-inning game at Briar Cliff (Iowa) on April 21.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Bishop Mueller Field in Sioux City, Iowa.  DSU concludes their road trip with a doubleheader at long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on April 22.  The doubleheader kicks off at 4 p.m. at Caldwell Park in Mitchell, S.D.  Dakota State returns home for their final home series of the season on April 25-26, hosting Presentation (S.D.) in the NSAA's four game series at Flynn Field.  The doubleheader kicks off at 1 p.m. on April 25 and 12 noon on April 26.
