MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) used a pair of home runs by Jamie Jorgensen in the first game to rally back to defeat Presentation (S.D.) 11-5 Sunday afternoon at Flynn Field.  The Trojans held on to defeat the Saints 2-1 in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Baseball Conference home finale, concluding DSU's home regular-season schedule.

Dakota State, which earned their fifth victory in the last six games, finished their regular-season with an overall record of 15-34 and 9-11 NSAA conference record.  The Trojans will be heading in the conference postseason tournament with a No. 4 seed.  Presentation fell to 15-39 overall record and 6-14 NSAA, holding the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NSAA conference tournament.

Game 1:  Dakota State (S.D.) 11, Presentation (S.D.) 5 – FINAL

Trailing 5-2 in the third game of the NSAA's four-game series, the Trojans shut down the Saints 9-0 for the rest of the game to gain a six-run victory.

Presentation scored the first run of the game in the opening inning.  Johnnie Morris reached on base by a walk.  Lane Hovde recorded a sacrifice bunt to advance Morris to second base.  Tony Hofman hit a single as Morris advanced to third base.  Ryan Baldonado produced an RBI single to give PC a 1-0 lead.

DSU answered back with two runs scored in the bottom first.  Nick Serrata hit a single with one out.  After Jake Harris' ground out to advance Serrata to second base, Jordan Entrikin hit a single to advance Serrata to third base.  On the same play, Serrata scored home caused by PC's defensive miscue. 

Jorgensen added a single in the bottom first frame to advance Danny Lopiparo – courtesy runner for Entrikin – to second base for Dakota State.  Travis Fleming reached on base by Saints' defensive error, allowing Lopiparo to score as the Trojans gabbed a 2-1 lead.

The Saints scored four runs in the top second inning to overtake the lead from DSU.  Jesse Spangler reached on base by DSU's defensive error.  He swiped to second base.  Drew Sanders recorded a walk.  Albert Castro hit a single to set up a bases loaded situation for Presentation.

Morris earned a 2-RBI single to score Spangler and Adam Spangler (courtesy runner for Sanders) as PC takes a 3-2 lead in the top second.  On the same play, Castro scored home caused by DSU's defensive error for a 4-2 lead.  The Saints made it 5-2 after Hovde hit an RBI single to score Morris.

The Trojans scored once in the bottom second half.  JD Farley reached on base by a walk.  Serrata was hit-by-pitch with one out and advanced Farley to second base.  Harris recorded an RBI single to score Farley as DSU trimmed PC's lead to 5-3.

Jorgensen drilled a solo home run to lead off the bottom third inning as Dakota State trailed 5-4.

DSU's offense began their scoring outburst in the bottom fourth frame with seven runs scored.  The Trojans opened up with Tyler Ratkie's walk and Serrata's double.  Harris hit an RBI single to score Ratkie as DSU knotted the game at 5-5.

Jorgensen blasted a 3-run home run in the bottom fourth frame as the Trojans grab an 8-5 lead over the Saints.  It was the sixth home run that Jorgensen recorded this season for Dakota State.

The Trojans continued their scoring run with three consecutive singles by Richard Sternberg, Fleming and Brady Wauer.  After Wauer's single, Sternberg scored home caused by PC's defensive miscue as the Trojans extend their lead to 9-5.

Farley added an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Fleming for 10-5 DSU lead in the bottom fourth.  Ratkie hit a single to advance Wauer to third base.  Serrata produced an RBI single to score Wauer as the Trojans' lead grew to 11-5.

Both teams could not score in the final 2 1/2 innings of the game.  The Saints left a runner on base as the Trojans secured the victory.

Jorgensen was 3-of-4 at the plate with two home runs, single and earned four RBIs for Dakota State.  Serrata added a double, two singles and an RBI.  Harris had two hits and two RBIs.  Ratkie recorded two singles.  Entrikin, Sternberg, Fleming and Wauer each had a single.  Farley collected an RBI.

Morris, Hovde, Castro and Baldonado each had two singles for Presentation.  Spangler had a double.  Hofman recorded a single.  Morris earned two RBIs.  Hovide and Baldonado each had an RBI.  Hovde and Spangler each swiped one base.

DSU had 14 hits in the game compared to PC 10 hits.  The Trojans left 10 runners on base while the Saints had 5 runners left on base.

Connor Nagel started the game on the pitching mound for Dakota State.  He worked the first two innings and gave up five runs (two unearned) on five hits.  Taylor Boerger (1-2) earned the victory as he pitched five scoreless innings.  He limited the Saints to five hits and recorded three strikeouts.

John Giove pitched three-plus innings for Presentation.  He allowed five runs (two unearned) on five hits.  Jake Bunjovac (1-6) took the loss in relief after working for two outs in the bottom fourth inning.  He gave up six runs (one unearned) on seven hits.  Emilio Griego tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up two hits in relief.

Game 2:  Dakota State (S.D.) 2, Presentation (S.D.) 1 – FINAL

Dakota State scored twice in the opening inning coupled with Sternberg's complete game victory to complete a doubleheader sweep over Presentation.

Ratkie led off the Trojans with a single in the bottom first frame.  Serrata added a walk to advance Ratkie to second base.  Entrikin produced an RBI single to score Ratkie for DSU's 1-0 lead (Serrata advanced to second base).  It was the 16th straight game that Entrikin had recorded a hit in a game.

Jorgensen was hit-by-pitch to set up a bases loaded situation for DSU in the bottom first.  A wild pitch by PC's Connor Perry allowed Serrata to score as the Trojans expanded their lead to 2-0.

The Saints snapped their scoring drought with a run scored in the top sixth frame.  Baldonado kicked off with a single.  Spangler recorded a sacrifice bunt to advance Baldonado to second base.  Ryan Strickland, pinch hitter for Stephen Yant, hit a single to advance Baldonado to third base.  Hovde hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Baldonado as PC trimmed DSU's lead to 2-1.

The Trojans secured the victory as the Saints went three-and-out in the final inning.

Entrikin was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two singles and RBI for Dakota State.  Fleming, Ratkie, Fleming and David Novak each added a single. 

Morris, Baldonado, Spangler, Strickland and Hovde each had a single for Presentation.  Hovde recorded an RBI.  Hovde and Spangler each swiped one base.

Both teams had five hits in the game.  DSU left eight runners on base compared to PC seven runners left on base.

Sternberg (4-4) tossed a complete game victory on the pitching mound for the Trojans.  He allowed one run on five hits.  Sternberg struck out seven PC's batters.

Perry (3-3) recorded the loss after pitching a complete game for the Saints.  He gave up two runs on five hits.

It was the final collegiate career baseball home game at Flynn Field for nine DSU seniors—Mitch Bouchard, Dylan Decker, Entrikin, Farley, Lopiparo, Ryan Schlesser, Serrata, Zac Smith and Bryant Westra.

Dakota State heads in the postseason play next weekend, competing in the North Star Athletic Association Baseball Conference Tournament at Astoria Field in Dickinson, N.D.  The Trojans will face No. 3 seed Valley City State (N.D.) in the opening round on Friday.  Presentation is slated to face No. 2 seed Jamestown (N.D.) on the same day.  Times have not yet been determined.
