DICKINSON, N.D. - Valley City State University scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, breaking open a tight game as the Vikings defeated Dakota State 8-4 in Friday's first round of the North Star Athletic Association baseball tournament.

With the Vikings leading 4-2 and bases loaded in the seventh, Joe Demers broke the game open with a bases-clearing triple to right-center field. Jake Rambow followed with an RBI single to score Demers, giving the Vikings a commanding 8-2 lead.
