SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff (Iowa) hit .359 in the match and held Dakota State to .021 hitting percentage Thursday evening in Chargers' 3-0 sweep at Newman Flanagan Center.  BCU cruised to 25-8 and 25-12 for 2-0 match lead and held off Trojans' comeback with a 26-24 third set victory.

DSU dropped their third straight game, dipping their overall record to 4-7.  BCU improved their overall record to 7-3.

Dakota State was held to minus .200 (4 kills with 10 errors in 30 attempts) in the opening set, while Briar Cliff hit .476 (11 kills with 1 error in 21 attempts).  The Chargers hit .533 in the second set (18 kills with 2 errors in 30 attempts) compared to DSU's .069 (6 kills with 4 errors in 29 attempts).

Both teams hit .171 in the third set that was decided by two points, however, BCU outhit DSU 16-12.

Carly Rozell led the Trojans with seven kills.  McKenzie Werner added four kills.  Kirstin Johnson and Tessa Weeldreyer each had three kills.

Kaylee Vander Wal produced eight assists for Dakota State.  Rachel Johnson added seven assists.

DSU's Chelsey Davis recorded 11 digs.  Vander Wal added five digs.

Toni Beck smashed 13 and hit .435 in the match for Briar Cliff.  Katelin Langel added 11 kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .375.  Madeline Hanno had 20 assists, while Dani Helland added 18 assists.  Amy Frank recorded 11 digs.

Emily Sanburg, Langel and Breanna Nogelmeier each had three block assists for the Chargers.

BCU had 45 kills in the match with 12 errors in 92 attempts.  DSU recorded 22 kills with 20 errors in 94 attempts.

Briar Cliff tallied 12 block assists and a solo block while the Trojans had seven block assists.

The junior varsity match went to three sets, won by the Chargers.

Dakota State stays busy on the road Friday as they compete on the first day of the College of Saint Mary/Grace (Neb.) Tournament.  The Trojans face Mount Mercy (Iowa) at 12 p.m. and host-team College of Saint Mary (Neb.) at 4 p.m.  Both matches will be at the Lied Fitness Center in Omaha, Neb.
