YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) took advantage of Mount Marty's (S.D.) 30 attack errors and 11 service errors Tuesday evening as the Trojans earned a 3-1 road victory at Cimpl Arena.  It was the first road victory this season for DSU, nailing down the Lancers by the scores of 25-20, 18-25, 28-26 and 25-18.

Dakota State extended their winning streak to a season-high three matches, raising their overall record to 7-9.  Mount Marty, member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, dropped to 4-5 overall record.

At 9-9 in the opening set, the Trojans went on an 8-1 scoring run to grab a 17-10 lead.  DSU held on to a five-point first-set victory (25-20) for a 1-0 match lead after hitting .143 (12 kills with 6 errors in 42 attempts).  MMC was held to .047 hitting efficiency (11 kills with 9 errors in 43 attempts).

Trailing 16-15 in the second set, the Lancers stormed back by using a 10-2 closing run to earn a 25-18 victory.  During that scoring run, MMC recorded four service aces – three by Sierra Kloth.

Dakota State had to rally back from seven points down in the third set.  Down 17-10, the Trojans staged a huge comeback with a 13-6 scoring run – thanks to three kills apiece by Tessa Weeldreyer and Carly Rozell and two kills from McKenzie Werner – to tie at 23-23.   

After a service ace by DSU's Allison Thielsen to give the Trojans a 24-23 lead, MMC answered back with a kill by Kloth to tie the third set at 24-24.  The Lancers saved two set points afterwards, but the Trojans finished off the third set by MMC's service error by Kloth and a kill by Kirstin Johnson (assisted by Kaylee Vander Wal) for an exciting 28-26 victory and 2-1 DSU match lead.

Dakota State raced to a 9-1 opening lead in the fourth set, thanks to MMC's five attack errors (two DSU's blocks by Kylie Martin and Kirstin Johnson).  The Trojans cruised past the Lancers for a 25-18 victory, securing a 3-1 match victory.

Weeldreyer had a double-double (her second double-double of the season) of 14 kills and 12 digs for DSU.  She recorded a hitting efficiency of .306.  Rozell added 13 kills.  Kirstin Johnson had nine kills and a hitting percentage of .421. 

Rachel Johnson posted her sixth double-double of the season, producing 27 set assists and recording 12 digs for Dakota State.  Vander Wall added 13 assists and 7 digs.

Chelsey Davis registered 23 digs to lead DSU's defense.

Thielsen, who surpassed her 1,000 career digs after 3-1 victory over Southwestern (Kan.) last Saturday, tallied 15 digs for the Trojans.  She also had two service aces in the match. 

Kirstin Johnson and Martin each had two block assists for Dakota State.  Martin also had two solo blocks.

Sam Bischoff led the Lancers with 12 kills.  Baily Kuchta added 10 kills.  Amber Dythse and Kloth each had eight kills.

Dythse had a double-double of 27 assists and 14 digs for MMC.  Lindsey Jaixen had 14 assists.

BreAnne Thege collected 28 digs for Mount Marty.  Maura Lysne added 21 digs.

Mount Marty outhit Dakota State 50-48 in the match, but the Trojans hit better than the Lancers.  DSU hit .150 (48 kills with 22 errors in 173 attempts), while MMC hit .110 (50 kills with 30 errors in 181 attempts).

The Trojans had six blocks compared to the Lancers four blocks.

DSU had a service percentage of .937 (2 service aces and 6 service errors in 95 attempts).  Mount Marty recorded a service percentage of .879 (5 service aces and 11 service errors in 91 attempts).

Dakota State's junior varsity team also earned their first victory of the season, sweeping the Lancers in two straight sets by the scores of 25-17 and 25-22.

Dakota State concludes their month-long road trip this weekend as they open up their North Star Athletic Association conference play.  The Trojans visit Mayville State (N.D.) Friday evening with the first serve at 7 p.m., held at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, N.D.  On Saturday, DSU travels to Valley City State (N.D.) at 2 p.m.
