NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D.Tessa Weeldreyer of Dakota State (S.D.) was tabbed by the North Star Athletic Association conference as an Attacker-of-the-Week, the volleyball weekly honors were announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. 

Weeldreyer, 5-foot-10-inch junior middle hitter, smashed double-figure kills in all three matches last week as the Trojans went 3-0 record.  The victories occurred on the road at Mount Marty (S.D.) on Sept. 15 and a pair of NSAA conference opening weekend matches with five-set thrillers at Mayville State (N.D.) on Sept. 18 and Valley City State (N.D.) and Sept. 19.  DSU extended their season-high winning streak to five matches.

During the match at Mount Marty, Weeldreyer posted a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs in Trojans' 3-1 victory.  She had 15 kills, 2 service aces, 3 solo blocks and 6 block assists in DSU's 3-2 thriller at Mayville State in both teams' opener.  Weeldreyer added 10 kills and just committed 1 attack error in 18 attempts in DSU's 3-2 come-from-behind win at Valley City State.

DSU's Weeldreyer hit .310 for the week, recording 39 total kills (2.8 kills per set) and 12 errors in 87 attempts.  She also accumulated a total of 22 digs (1.6 digs per set), 9 block assists (0.6 block assists per set), 5 solo blocks (0.4 solo blocks per set) and 2 service aces.

According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Monday, Weeldreyer ranks 12th in the nation in total blocks with 74 and 31st in blocks per set (1.1).  She leads the North Star Athletic Association conference in the blocks categories.

Dakota State moved back to .500 with an overall record of 9-9.  The Trojans are tied with Jamestown (N.D.) for the top spot in the NSAA Volleyball conference standings.

Tessa is the daughter of Terry and Doreen Weeldreyer of Parker, S.D.  She is majoring in Health Information Administration at Dakota State University.

DSU continues their NSAA conference action with three matches in three straight days this week.  Dakota State plays their first home match of the season Thursday evening at DSU Fieldhouse, hosting Presentation (S.D.).  There will be a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7 p.m.

The Trojans head back on the road this weekend against a pair of NSAA's newcomers – Waldorf (Iowa) with a junior varsity match at 5 p.m. and varsity match at 7 p.m. Friday in Forest City, Iowa.  On Saturday, DSU travels to La Crosse, Wis. for a match-up with the nationally-ranked No. 2 Viterbo (Wis.) kicking off with a junior varsity match at 1 p.m. and varsity at 3 p.m.
