MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University cross country teams kicked off their 2013 season with its first official practice this week. Their first meet of the season is on Sept. 6 as they race 'under the lights' at the Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet in Sioux Falls.
A total of 13 runners reported to camp. Anthony Drealan is in his first year as DSU's head cross country head coach. He is assisted by DSU's long-time coach Buzz Stevenson and graduate assistant coach Cody Foreman.
Michael Hoffman is the lone senior on the Trojan men's cross country team this fall. There are four sophomore runners - Taylor Hauge, Steve Selchert, Jared Sutton an Jared Truman. DSU have three new faces on the men's team - Claudio Tejada, Michael Carson and Caleb Hemphill.
The Trojan women's cross country team have five runners on the team. Three runners return back from last year's team, which include sophomore Anastasia Gentles, Brooke Fritz and Kayla Sveen. Vicotria Sopko and Autumn Hazelett are the new faces to the DSU women's cross country team.
DSU competes in five regular-season meet, including the home meet in honor of DSU former head coach Herb Blakely on Sept. 14 at the Madison Country Club.
Dakota State is one of the five charter members of the newly-formed NAIA's conference - the North Star Athletic Association. The Trojans will be competing in the postseason meet on Nov. 9 in Lawrence, Kan. More information on the postseason conference meet will be announced on a later date.
