ABERDEEN, S.D.Taylor Zirbel went perfect 11-of-11 from the field, setting a school record for best field goal percentage, in helping Dakota State (S.D.) to an 87-67 victory over Oak Hills (Minn.) as part of Isreal & Strong Classic (sponsored by AmericInn at Presentation) Friday afternoon at Strode Center.

Dakota State – receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll, bounced back in the winning column, lifting their overall record to 2-1.  Oak Hills fell to 0-3 overall record.

The Trojans shot 53.1 percent from the field (17-of-32) in the first twenty minutes of the game, gaining a 41-31 halftime lead over the Wolfpack.  OHC was 41.2 percent from the field (14-of-34) in the first-half.

Oak Hills could get no closer than seven points on two different occasions (44-37 with 17:43 left and 46-39 with 17:22 remaining).  From there, DSU went on a 29-9 outburst for the biggest lead of the game at 75-48 with 7:20 remaining in the game.

Dakota State shot 50 percent from the field, making 17 baskets in 34 attempts.  Oak Hills was 42.4 percent from the field (14-of-33).

Zirbel poured in 23 points off the bench for the Trojans.  Justin Folkers added 20 points on his 9-of-13 field goal shooting.  Kyle Kilgore netted in 12 points.  Jay Huls scored eight points.  Adam Hofer had seven points. 

Four players – Brendon Boomsma, Ian Barse, Tanner Heiser and Hofer – each dished out five assists for DSU.

All twelve Dakota State players recorded at least a rebound in the game, led by Folkers with eight rebounds.  Nathaniel Rauen added five rebounds.

Heiser and Rauen each stole the ball twice in the game for the Trojans.  Folkers, Heiser and Zirbel each had a blocked shot.

Ezekiel Cook led Oak Hills' offense with 19 points.  Kody Diehm added 16 points.  Chris Prindes had nine points.

Colin Tyrone grabbed six rebounds for the Wolfpack.  Diehm had four assists and three steals.

Dakota State shot 51.5 percent overall from the field (34-of-66) compared to Oak Hills 41.8 percent (28-of-67).  The Trojans were 4-of-17 from the 3-point line (23.5 percent), while the Wolfpack was 19.2 percent from the 3-point arc (5-of-26).

DSU was 15-of-25 from the free-throw line (60 percent).  OHC was 6-of-9 free-throws (66.7 percent).

The Trojans outrebounded Wolfpack 41-30 in the game.  DSU outscored OHC 13-3 in second-chance points and 42-16 in bench points.

Dakota State returns home Tuesday evening as they host their long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) – No. 24 in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 national poll.  Tip-off from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m. in Madison.
