NAIA PRESS RELEASE:  Women's - Men's

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Friday on the day prior to the NAIA Cross Country Championship meets that a combined 420 women's and men's cross country student-athletes have been named to 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Two Dakota State (S.D.) runners are listed on the 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athletes.  They are (name, academic year, parents' name, hometown, major at Dakota State University):

  • Victoria Sopko (Senior) – daughter of Jason and Emily Sopko of Forest City, Iowa – Elementary Education – Sopko became a 2-time Daktronics-NAIA Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete, her third overall at Dakota State University (2015 Daktronics-NAIA Track & Field Scholar-Athlete)
  • Michael Carson (Junior) – son of Tom and Tammy Carson of Dakota City, Neb. – Cyber Security/Network Security
