MADISON, S.D. – Sixth-year head coach Scott Hortness announced the 2016 Dakota State University (S.D.) baseball schedule Monday.  The 2016 schedule included 49 games – with 17 games to be played at DSU's home field Flynn Field and 9 games to be played in Tucson, Ariz. as part of Tucson Invitational in early March.

The season begins on Saturday, March 5 as the Trojans travel to Yankton, S.D. to take on in-state rival Mount Marty in a non-conference doubleheader before their trip to Arizona to play nine games in the Tucson Invitational from March 7-15.  Dates and opponents for the invitational will be announced at a later time.

The Trojans return back to the Midwest region as they play home-and-away series with Briar Cliff (Iowa).  The first doubleheader will take place in Sioux City, Iowa on March 19 and returning back to Madison for another doubleheader on March 20.

DSU continues their home stand as they begin their North Star Athletic Association conference play with a four-game series versus Mayville State (N.D.) on March 25-26 at Flynn Field.  Dakota State is slated to play a total of 24 NSAA conference games in 2016.

The Trojans step away from the conference schedule as they play four non-conference games against a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference, visiting at Dordt (Iowa) on March 28 and at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on March 31.  Both days will be played as a doubleheader.

Dakota State swings back in North Star conference action as they continue their action on the road.  The Trojans head to Omaha, Neb. to take on the nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) in a four-game series on April 2-3.  DSU will make a stop in Yankton on April 5 for a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Marty.

The Trojans play another NSAA's four-game series on the road at Presentation (S.D.) on April 9-10, followed by a home nine-inning game versus Dordt (Iowa) on April 11 before heading to Dickinson State (N.D.) on April 16-17 for NSAA's four-game series.

DSU returns home on April 19 for a non-conference doubleheader versus Mount Marty.  Dakota State will host the NSAA's newcomer Viterbo (Wis.) for a four-game series on April 23-24.  The Trojans have a nine-inning contest at NCAA Division I South Dakota State on April 27.

Dakota State closes out the regular-season schedule with a four-game series with another NSAA's newcomer Waldorf (Iowa) on April 30 and May 1 at Flynn Field.

The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA), which features 10 teams in the league including a provisional member Winnipeg (Canada), will have their baseball postseason tournament from May 6-10.  The tournament is scheduled to take place in two different locations with the University of Jamestown (N.D.) and Valley City State University (S.D.) designated as this year's hosts.

The NSAA conference will have two automatic bods for the national tournament.  The regular-season champion and conference tournament postseason champion each will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Baseball national Tournament Opening Round.  If the regular-season champion won the postseason tournament championship, the runner-up team will receive the second automatic bid to the nationals.

The winners of the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round, which is held from May 16-19, will advance to the NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 27 through June 3.
