GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· Dakota State (S.D.) (6-7 overall record) plays a pair of teams in Iowa this week.  The Trojans look to swing back in the winning column after losing their last two games at DSU Fieldhouse.

· The Trojans head to Northwestern (Iowa) (7-7 overall record) Wednesday evening for the second meeting of the season.  The final game of the 2015 calendar year is slated for 7 p.m. at Bultman Center (101 7th Street SW) in Orange City, Iowa.

· On Saturday afternoon, DSU kicks off their 2016 calendar year in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, visiting Mount Mercy (Iowa) (9-4 overall record).  The second meeting of the season is set to tip off at 3 p.m. held at Hennessey Recreation Center (1330 Elmhurst Drive NE).

· Northwestern (Iowa) will be providing live video streaming and live stats/play-by-play for Wednesday's non-conference game with the Trojans.  Follow the game via live online on http://portal.stretchinternet.com/northwestern/.

TROJANS KICK OFF 2016 YEAR ON ROAD

· Dakota State (S.D.) kicks off their 2016 calendar year on the road Saturday at Mount Mercy (Iowa) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

· The Trojans play a total of 15 regular-season games in 2016, including a three-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse to conclude the season.

· DSU plays 13 North Star Athletic Association conference games in 2016.

DSU DROPS PAIR OF HIGH SCORING AFFAIRS

· Dakota State (S.D.) was unable to come up with a victory in their two-game home stand during the week before Christmas at DSU Fieldhouse.

· The Trojans fell to No. 12 Briar Cliff (Iowa) 90-80 on Dec. 17.  The Chargers, who never trailed in the game, built up a 20-piont halftime lead (46-26).  DSU could get no closer than 10 points with less than 12 seconds in the game after a jumper by Adam Hofer.

· A pair of Trojans scored 20-plus points in the game, led by Kyle Kilgore with 24 points.  He was 10-of-14 from the field.  Hofer added 20 points (7-of-11 shooting from the field, including 4-of-8 3-point field goals).

· DSU shot 51.7 percent overall in the game (30-of-58) compared to BCU 51.6 percent (33-of-64). 

· Dakota State and Mount Mercy (Iowa) battled in a back-and-forth game on Dec. 19, featuring at total of 14 ties and 12 lead changes in the game.

· Leading 84-82, the Mustangs pulled away by scoring the game's final six points in 1:07 for a 90-82 victory over the Trojans.

· Kilgore led DSU with 22 points on his 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 free-throws.  Tanner Heiser added 18 points (6-of-12 field goals).  Derek Meger and Brendon Boomsma each tallied 12 points.

· Mount Mercy shot 52.9 percent overall from the field (36-of-68), while Dakota State was 50 percent from the field (32-of-64). 

TROJANS VERSUS NAIA'S TOP 25/RECEIVING VOTES TEAMS

· The Trojans will face Mount Mercy—receiving votes in the second edition of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' poll—for the second time this season.

· DSU recorded a victory against a team that is in the receiving votes (RV) section of the Top 25 national poll, defeating Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) 70-63 on Nov. 29 in Fremont, Neb.

· Dakota State (S.D.) is seeking for their first win against NAIA's Top 25 national ranked team.

TROJANS' SIZZLING SHOOTING

· Dakota State (S.D.) had been shooting 50 percent or better from the field in the last three games.  DSU had made at least 30 field goals in the last three games.

· The Trojans shot 50 percent or better on eight different occasions this season.

· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Sunday, DSU ranks 16th in the nation in field goal percentage (48.8 percent).  The Trojans are 416-of-853 from the field through 13 games.

· Two Trojans are shooting above 60 percent from the field.  Derek Meger ranks eighth in the nation with 62.2 percent field goal shooting (61-of-92 field goals).  Kyle Kilgore is 11th in the nation with 61.1 field goal percentage (80-of-131 field goals).

· The Trojans are averaging 81.1 points per game, which is 49th best in the nation.

DSU'S HUSTLE STATS RANKS

· Dakota State's assist/turnover ratio is among Top 15 in the nation.  The Trojans are 14th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.5 (230 assists/156 turnovers this season).  Ian Barse ranks 42nd in assist/turnover ratio of 2.9.

· The Trojans allowed 29.3 percent 3-point field goal percentage, ranking DSU sixth-best in the nation.

· DSU accumulated a total of 230 assists, which is 17th-most assists in the nation.  Adam Hofer is 50th in the nation in total assists with 50 assists.

· Dakota State's defense is giving up an average of 71 points per game (32nd best in the nation). 

TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—184 points (14.2 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Derek Meger—62.2 percent—8th in the nation (61-of-92 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—39.9 percent (23-of-59 3-pointers)

· Free-throw percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—90.3 percent (28-of-31 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—102 rebounds (7.8 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Adam Hofer—50 assists—50th in the nation (3.9 assists per game)

· Steals:  Adam Hofer—16 steals (1.2 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Derek Meger—9 blocked shots (0.8 blocks per game)

LAST MEETING

· Dakota State (S.D.) snapped their three-game losing skid in the series meeting with Northwestern (Iowa) on Dec. 9 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Brendon Boomsma nailed down a game-winning basket for Trojans' 81-79 nail-bitter victory over NWIA.

· Mount Mercy (Iowa) won the last meeting over DSU on Dec. 19 in a high scoring affair at DSU Fieldhouse.  Both teams went through 14 ties and 12 lead changes with the Mustangs pulling off for a 90-82 victory over DSU.
