FOREST CITY, Iowa – Down by one point at halftime Tuesday evening at Hanson Fieldhouse, the Dakota State (S.D.) University men's basketball team outscored Waldorf (Iowa) 39-31 in the final twenty minutes of the game to gain a 70-63 North Star Athletic Association conference road victory.  The victory also snapped DSU's six-game losing skid and earned their first road victory of the season.  The Trojans earned a season series split with the Warriors, which both teams met within six days (first meeting on Jan. 6 at DSU Fieldhouse where WC nailed a 72-68 victory).

Dakota State (S.D.) improved their overall record to 7-11 and notched their first NSAA conference victory of the season (1-2 NSAA).  Waldorf dropped to 11-6 overall record and 4-4 record in NSAA conference play.

The Warriors opened up with a nine-point lead at 20-11 with nine minutes and twenty-four seconds on the clock in the first-half.

DSU answered back with a 9-0 outburst to knot the game after a pair of 3-pointers by Adam Hofer and Derek Meger.  Kyle Kilgore added a free throw and Tanner Heiser made a lay-up as Dakota State tied the game at 20-20 with 7:06 remaining in the first-half.

After WC expanded their lead to 37-31, the Trojans mounted a huge scoring run to overtake the lead.  DSU went on a 16-4 surge to grab a 48-41 lead with 11:34 remaining after a lay-up by JoBreil Powell.

The Warriors trimmed Trojans' lead down to 59-57 with 4:18 left in the game.

Leading 66-63, Dakota State secured the victory after making all four free-throws in the final 19 seconds of the game – a pair of free-throws by Hofer and Kilgore.  It was the first win of the 2016 calendar year for DSU and their first victory in a month (defeated Northwestern, Iowa 81-79 at the Sioux Falls' Sanford Pentagon on Dec. 9).
