JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) shot a sizzling 53.7 percent from the field Wednesday evening, propelling to a key North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Basketball conference victory over Jamestown (N.D.) by the score of 85-77 at the Civic Center.  It was the second straight victory in the series meeting with the Jimmies, with the last meeting held at the Civic Center where the Trojans won the NSAA conference championship game last March.

Dakota State improved their overall record to 11-13.  The Trojans are 5-4 record in conference play, moving in a three-way tie with Dickinson State (N.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) for third-place with six points in the NSAA conference standings.  Jamestown fell to 12-9 overall record and 4-4 NSAA conference (sixth place tie with Waldorf, Iowa with five points).

The Trojans opened up with a 4-0 lead with a pair of baskets by Derek Meger and Kyle Kilgore in the first one minute and forty-seven seconds of the game.

Jamestown would take their first lead of the game at 7-6 after a three-pointer by Vlad Stoicoviciu with less than 16 minutes on the clock in the first period.

Trailing 14-12, Tanner Heiser drained three straight 3-pointers as the Trojans regained their lead to 21-14 with 7:47 remaining before intermission. 

DSU would continue their scoring run for the first double-digit lead at 28-18 with 5:15 on the clock in the first-half.

With DSU leading at 30-20, the Jimmies closed the first-half with a 15-8 scoring run to cut Trojans' lead to 38-35 by halftime.

Dakota State shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) in the first twenty minutes compared to Jamestown 42.9 percent (12-of-28).  The Trojans were 4-of-8 from the 3-point arc while the Jimmies were 6-of-14 3-pointers.

UJ could get no closer than two points on three different occasions in the second-half – 44-42 with 16:43 remaining, 47-45 with 16:09 left, and 55-53 with 12:37 remaining. 

Dakota State went to score seven straight points – 3-pointer by Ian Barse and a pair of baskets by Kilgore – to extend their lead to 62-53 with 10:37 left.

Brequan Tucker drained a 3-pointer with 1:40 remaining as Jamestown cut Dakota State's lead to 73-70.

The Trojans answered the game by making all 12 free throw attempts in the final 1:21 of the game to secure the victory.  Adam Hofer and Barse each went 4-for-4 free-throws, while Kilgore and Heiser each went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line during the final 1:21.

DSU was 51.9 percent from the field (14-of-27) in the second-half and 5-of-7 from the 3-point line.  UJ was 48.5 percent in the final twenty minutes, converting 16 baskets in 33 attempts and 8-of-14 from the 3-point range.

Kilgore and Barse posted season-highs in total points for Dakota State.  Kilgore produced his seventh double-double of the season with game-highs of 32 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  He was 14-of-21 from the field and 4-of-6 free-throws. 

Barse added 25 points on his 6-of-10 field goal shooting, including 5-of-6 from the 3-point line for DSU.  He was perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.  Barse collected seven rebounds and had four assists.

Heiser scored 16 points and dished out five assists for the Trojans.  He was 5-of-8 from the field and drained four 3-pointers in six tries.  Heiser had two steals.

Meger recorded six rebounds for DSU.  Hofer produced three assists.  Kilgore had three blocked shots.

Tucker led the Jimmies with 22 points (8-of-15 field goals and 3-of-3 free-throws).  Aaron Ashley scored 11 points off the bench. 

Logan Brown earned six boards for UJ.  Jake Hagler had a game-high eight assists. 

Dakota State shot 29-of-54 from the field and 9-of-15 from the 3-point line.  Jamestown was 45.9 percent from the field (28-of-61) and 14-of-28 3-pointers.

DSU made 18 free-throws in 20 attempts (90 percent) while UJ was 7-of-9 free-throws (77.8 percent).

The Trojans outrebounded the Jimmies 35-26 in the game.  DSU outscored UJ 38-18 inside the paint.

Dakota State returns home to play their four of the last five regular-season games at the DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans continue their NSAA conference action Saturday, hosting Presentation (S.D.) as part of 'Merica Night.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
