MADISON, S.D. – Holding a four-point halftime lead Saturday evening at DSU Fieldhouse, Dakota State (S.D.) used a strong second-half outburst by outscoring Presentation (S.D.) 47-24 for an 87-60 North Star Athletic Association men's basketball conference victory.  It was the second straight conference victory for the Trojans.

Dakota State improved their overall record to 12-13 and 6-4 NSAA conference record.  After No. 17-ranked Bellevue's (Neb.) 86-82 home loss to Jamestown (N.D.) and Dickinson State's (N.D.) 77-60 home victory over Mayville State (N.D.), the Trojans are in a four-way tie for second-place (BU, UJ and DiSU) for the NSAA conference regular-season title race with seven points.  No. 20 Valley City State (N.D.) maintains their lead in the conference standings with nine points.

Presentation fell to 11-12 overall record and 3-6 NSAA conference record (3 points with a ninth-place in the NSAA conference standings).  The Trojans swept the season series with the Saints with DSU winning the first meeting 82-78 on Jan. 20 in Aberdeen, S.D.

The Trojans made their first five shots in eight attempts to grab a 12-4 opening lead with fifteen minutes and thirty-eight seconds on the clock.  The Saints were held to one basket in their first six field goal attempts of the game.

DSU earned its first double-digit lead of the game after Justin Folkers nailed down a pair of free-throws for 26-15 lead with 9:22 left in the first-half.

The Saints answered with an 18-7 scoring run to gain their first lead of the game at 34-33 after Donnell Minton completed a 3-point play with 2:09 to go in the first period.

Tied at 36-36, the Trojans closed the first-half with four consecutive points.  Derek Meger made 1-of-2 free-throw with 1:12 on the clock for 37-36 lead.  Tanner Heiser drained a 3-pointer with less than 25 seconds before intermission as DSU earned a 40-36 halftime lead.

Dakota State shot 48.3 percent from the field (14-of-29) and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in the first twenty minutes.  Presentation was 47.1 percent from the field (16-of-34) and 3-of-5 free-throws.

The Trojans extended their lead to 50-42 before the Saints rallied back with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 50-50 with 13:15 remaining.

Leading 53-52, Dakota State went on a 9-0 outburst – thanks to Heiser with a 3-pointer, a basket by Ian Barse, a free-throw by Taylor Zirbel and a 3-pointer by Brendon Boomsma – to widen their lead to 63-52 with 8:32 left.

At 67-56, the Trojans outscored the Saints 20-4 in the final 5:26 of the game to secure the victory.

DSU shot 50 percent in the second-half (16-of-32), including 7-of-12 from the 3-point line.  PC was held to 28.1 percent, making nine baskets in 32 attempts and 4-of-15 3-pointers.

Kyle Kilgore scored 20 points on 8-of-14 field goal shooting and 4-of-5 free-throws for Dakota State.  Meger and Barse each added 13 points.  Heiser had nine points. 

Adam Hofer scored eight points and dished out a career-high nine assists for DSU.  Boomsma had seven points off the bench.

Barse led the Trojans with eight rebounds.  Kilgore added six rebounds. 

Heiser and Zirbel each had two steals for Dakota State.  Kilgore had two blocked shots.

Minton had a game-high 22 points for the Saints.  He was 10-of-23 from the field.  Tre Erby added 12 points off the bench. 

Minton collected eight rebounds for PC.  Erby added seven rebounds.

Louis Cox recorded three assists for Presentation.  Minton had three steals.  Calvin Carr registered two blocked shots.

Dakota State shot 49.2 percent overall from the field, converting 30 baskets in 61 attempts.  Presentation was 37.9 percent from the field (25-of-66).

The Trojans drained nine 3-pionters in 20 tries (45 percent) compared to the Saints' 5-of-24 3-pointers (20.8 percent). 

DSU made 18 free-throws in 24 attempts (75 percent), while PC was 5-of-9 free-throws (55.6 percent).

Both teams had 39 rebounds in the game.

DSU outscored PC 12-4 in fast-break points and 28-12 in points off turnovers.

Dakota State plays their final regular-season NSAA road contest before concluding the season with their three-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans visit Mayville State (N.D.) on Wednesday evening at Lewy Lee Field house.  Presentation remains on the road as they visit Jamestown (N.D.) on the same night.  Both games are set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
