GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University men's basketball team (14-13 overall record, 8-4 North Star Athletic Association conference record) closes out their regular-season this week as they play two home games at DSU Fieldhouse.

· The Trojans host Jamestown (N.D.) (15-9, 7-4 NSAA) Wednesday evening.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. as part of 'White-Out' Night to raise cancer awareness (Stadium Appreciation Night).

· On Saturday, Dakota State concludes their 3-game home stand as they welcome Dickinson State (N.D.) (12-14, 5-6 NSAA).  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.  The DSU men's basketball team will recognize their three seniors after the completion of the Lady T's basketball game and prior to men's warm-ups.

FOLLOW THE TROJANS

· Dakota State (S.D.) will provide free video and audio broadcast in Trojan men's basketball home games at DSU Fieldhouse.

· Follow the Trojan men's basketball game versus  Jamestown (N.D.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) via live online video and audio broadcast on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC37qDcInG0tgZaN8nUHn_Sw/live.  Jon Hunter, the Voice of the Trojans, will be doing the audio webcast of the game.

TROJANS TO HONOR THREE SENIORS

· DSU will honor three seniors—Jay Huls, Derek Meger and Taylor Zirbel—on Saturday after the completion of the women's basketball game and prior to men's warm-ups.

· They were integral members of the DSU men's basketball team that captured their first-ever NSAA regular-season conference & postseason conference tournament titles.  DSU qualified for the NAIA D-II National Tournament for the 3rd time in 4 years.

DSU EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO FOUR, KNOCKS OFF NO. 20 VIKINGS

· Dakota State (S.D.) raced to a 13-0 lead over Mayville State (N.D) and never trailed in the game, paving to an 83-68 NSAA conference victory.  It was the fifth conference win on the road this season for the Trojans.

· DSU avenged its earlier loss to the Comets 68-58 on Jan. 30 at DSU Fieldhouse.

· Five Trojan players scored in double figures, led by Kyle Kilgore who had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Derek Meger added 16 points.  Adam Hofer and Brendon Boomsma (drained 4 3-pointers in the first-half) each tallied 14 points.  Tanner Heiser scored 10 points.

· Dakota State shot a sizzling 54.4 percent from the field, converting 31 baskets in 57 attempts.  Mayville State shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61).

· The Trojans outrebounded the Comets 37-24 in the game. 

· DSU built up a 19-point lead in the early second-half over nationally-ranked No. 20 Valley City State (N.D.) on Feb. 13.  The Trojans held off Vikings' late second-half surge for a 76-72 win.

· It was the first win for Dakota State against a nationally-ranked NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, dropping the previous eight games versus NAIA's Top 25 this season.

· Kilgore produced his second straight double-double, his ninth overall this season, after scoring a game-high 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the Trojans. 

· Hofer added 19 points for DSU.  Meger had 10 points.

· Trojan Heiser dished out a career-high 14 assists, with 10 assists coming in the first-half.  He dished out all six assists on the first DSU's six field goals made of the game. 

· Taylor Zirbel earned five rebounds for DSU.  Meger and Justin Folkers each had a block.

· DSU shot 50.9 percent from the field (29-of-57) compared to VCSU 46 percent (29-of-63).  The Trojans are 16-of-22 free-throws (72.7 percent) while the Vikings were 9-of-16 free-throws.

KILGORE EARNS NSAA HONORS FOR 2ND STRAIGHT WEEK

· Kyle Kilgore of Dakota State (S.D.) was honored by the NSAA conference for the second consecutive week.

· He produced back-to-back double-doubles as DSU went 2-0 record for the week.  He scored 17 points and earned 11 rebounds in 83-68 road victory at Mayville State (N.D.).  He followed up with 23 points and 11 rebounds in 76-72 upset victory over No. 20 Valley City State (N.D.).

· For the week, Kilgore averaged 20.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.  He was 15-of-25 from the field (60 percent) and 10-of-15 free-throws (66.7 percent).

DSU IN NSAA CONFERENCE TITLE HUNT

· Dakota State (S.D.) is one of the four teams that are still in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) regular-season title race, which is coming down to the final week of regular-season play.

· Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) are currently tied for first-place in the conference standings with 10 points.

· Bellevue (Neb.) and Dakota State (S.D.) are tied for third with nine points.

· The Vikings, Jimmies and Trojans all have two NSAA conference games remaining this week.  The Bruins will visit at Viterbo (Wis.) on Friday evening.

· Dakota State leads the NSAA with most conference victories this season with eight.

· The NSAA conference postseason tournament pairings will be announced after the conclusion of this weekend's games.

TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—419 points (15.5 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Derek Meger—59.9 percent (121-of-202 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—39.2 percent (49-of-125)

· Free-throw percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—91.5 percent (65-of-71 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—217 rebounds—35th in the nation (8.0 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—101 assists (4.0 assists per game—46th in the nation)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—36 steals (1.4 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Taylor Zirbel, Kilgore, Meger—14 blocked shots

LAST MEETING

· Dakota State (S.D.) shot a sizzling 53.7 percent from the field in defeating Jamestown (N.D.) 85-77 on Feb. 3 in Jamestown, N.D.  It was the second straight victory for DSU in the series meeting with the Jimmies.

· The Trojans shot season-highs 60.3 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the 3-point line for a 105-84 road victory at Dickinson State (N.D.) on Jan. 23.  DaSU's 105 points is the most points scored in a NSAA conference game in the Trojan's men's basketball team history.
