GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· Third-seeded Dakota State University men's basketball team (17-13 overall record, 10-4 NSAA) hosts seventh-seeded Mayville State (N.D.) (17-11, 6-8 NSAA) in the semifinals round of the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament on Saturday evening

· Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. DSU Fieldhouse.  This will be the Trojans' fifth straight game at home, their sixth game in the last seventh games being played at DSU Fieldhouse.  Saturday's game also mark the second straight year that DSU hosted MSU in the NSAA semifinals round.

TROJANS SHARE NSAA REGULAR-SEASON TITLE

· DSU won back-to-back regular-season conference title after routing Dickinson State (N.D.) 83-51 on Feb. 20. 

· With the help from Presentation (S.D.) playing a spoiler at Valley City State (N.D.) after an 84-82 overtime victory on Feb. 20, the Trojans clinched a share of NSAA regular-season conference title with Bellevue (Neb.) and VCSU (11 points).

· It was the first time in DSU men's basketball team program history that they won a back-to-back conference regular-season title.

· It was the fourth conference regular-season title in DSU men's basketball team history (SDIC titles in 1967 and 1991 and NSAA in 2015).

DSU REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN FEBRUARY

· The Trojans closed their regular-season schedule with a 3-0 record home stand after a pair of NSAA conference victories last week, extending their 7-0 undefeated record during the month of February and 11th win in the last 13 games.

· Dakota State swept the season series over Jamestown (N.D.) for the first time since 2004-05 season after 89-86 victory on Feb. 17.

· A pair of Trojans posted double-double in the game, led by Kyle Kilgore with a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds.  Tanner Heiser added a career-high 23 points and dished out 10 assists.

· Derek Meger scored 13 points and earned 8 rebounds for the Trojans.  Adam Hofer had 12 points.  Ian Barse tallied 7 points and 5 rebounds.

· Holding a 42-32 halftime lead on Feb. 20, Dakota State held Dickinson State (N.D.) to 19 points in the second-half for an 83-51 regular-season finale victory at DSU Fieldhouse.

· Kilgore produced another double-double in the game, scoring 19 points and earning 13 boards.

· Hofer added 13 points, while Heiser had 11 points.  Both Hofer and Heiser drained three 3-pointers in the game.

· Heiser registered a game-high seven assists for the Trojans.  Hofer and Taylor Zirbel each added three assists.  Derek Meger had nine points.  Barse, Zirbel and Jay Huls each scored six points.

· The Trojans shot a season-high 61.8 percent from the field and scored 64 points inside the paint, fueling DSU to a 101-84 victory over Waldorf (Iowa) in the quarterfinal round of the NSAA conference tournament on Feb. 25.

· All five DSU starters scored in double figures, powered by Kilgore with 22 points (10-of-12 field goal shooting).  Meger added 18 points after going 8-of-10 from the field.  Barse scored 16 points while Hofer had 13 points.  Heiser produced a double-double of 12 points and dished out 11 assists.  Zirbel scored 14 points off the bench for the Trojans.

· It was the most points scored in the NSAA postseason game for Dakota State.

NSAA MEN'S BASKETBALL POSTSEASON SEMIFINALS SET

· No. 7 seed Mayville State (N.D.) headlined the NSAA Postseason quarterfinals round with a 73-62 upset over second-seeded Bellevue (Neb.).

· Fourth-seeded Jamestown (N.D.) kicked off a rare afternoon marquee of the NSAA Quarterfinals Thursday, defeating No. 5 seed Dickinson State (N.D.) after pulling away in the second-half by the score of 93-74.

· Valley City State (N.D.) - top-seeded team in the conference postseason tournament—survived a 69-67 nail-biter win over No. 8 seed Viterbo (Wis.).

· No. 3 seed Dakota State (S.D.) scored its most points in the NSAA conference postseason game, hitting over the century mark in 101-84 victory over No. 6 seed Waldorf (Iowa).

· In Saturday's semifinals, Dakota State hosts Mayville State while Valley City State welcomes Jamestown for a spot in the NSAA conference championship game on Monday.

TROJANS' SUCCESS IN THE POSTSEASON

· Dakota State (S.D.) has been in the conference postseason tournament's championship game in the last four years—all against Jamestown (N.D.), including the last two years in the NSAA conference.

· The Trojans had qualified for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament three times in the last four years, including the first automatic bid by the NSAA conference last season.

· Dakota State have won the last four NSAA conference postseason games, dating back from last season.

TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—487 points (16.2 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Derek Meger—59.7 percent (138-of-231 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—39.2 percent (51-of-130)

· Free-throw percentage:  Brendon Boomsma—91.8 percent (67-of-73 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—246 rebounds—25th in the nation (8.2 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—129 assists—30th in the nation (4.6 assists per game—30th in the nation)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—44 steals (1.6 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Kyle Kilgore—20 blocked shots

3-TIME NSAA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

· Kyle Kilgore was honored by the NSAA conference for the third straight week as its Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.

· He averaged 23.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game for the Trojans last week.  He was 15-of-33 from the field and made 16-of-21 free-throws.

· Kilgore posted game-highs 27 points and 11 rebounds, including a 3-point play that put the Trojans up 87-86 with 18.3 seconds remaining in the game.
