NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has selected Dakota State's (S.D.) Tanner Heiser to its final edition of the Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Heiser – 6-footer guard – averaged 17.7 points, 7.7 assists. 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals to fuel the Trojans to their second consecutive NSAA Men's Basketball Postseason Championship.  The victory also send DSU to their fourth trip to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in the last five years and their second consecutive trip to the nationals.

He posted a double-double of 12 points and dished out 11 assists, along with five steals in 101-84 NSAA postseason opening round victory versus Waldorf (Iowa) on Feb. 25.  He followed up with 16 points and 6 assists in 84-72 semifinals win over Mayville State (N.D.) on Feb. 27.

Heiser poured in a career-high 25 points on his 8-of-16 field goal shooting, including 5-of-7 from the 3-point line, and made 4-of-5 free-throws in DSU's 79-65 victory in the NSAA Men's Basketball Championship game on Feb. 29.  He also grabbed eight rebounds and produced six assists in the game.

For the week, Heiser shot 55.6 percent from the field by making 20 baskets in 36 attempts for Dakota State.  He was 8-of-15 from the 3-point line (55.3 percent) and made 5-of-8 free-throws.

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Tuesday, Heiser ranks 26th in the nation in both total assists (141) and assists per game (4.7).  He accumulated a total of 60 assists during the month of February, where the Trojans went 9-0 undefeated record (6.7 assists per game).  He also ranks 48th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 2.3.

Tanner is the son of Ron and Pam Heiser of Watertown, S.D.  He is a junior Professional Accountancy major at Dakota State University.

Dakota State finds out who they will play at the national tournament in the viewing party of the NAIA bracket release Wednesday evening at the Stadium Sports Grill.  The live selection show is set for 6 p.m. on the NAIA website (www.naia.org).
