KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the team and individual qualifiers for the 2011 NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships on Monday. The 56th Annual Men's event will take place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. on Nov. 19. The men's 8K championship race will start at 10:30 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time).
The 32-team men's field features 21 conference/independent/unaffiliated group champions, one conference/independent/unaffiliated group runner-up and nine at-large selections. There are also 100 individual qualifiers.
Junior Andy Coy and senior Matt Fideler of Dakota State are the two qualifiers that will compete in the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships. Coy was third in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Cross Country Championship meet on Nov. 5 in San Marcos, Calif. He finished with a time of 25 minutes and 19 seconds and was named to A.I.I. All-Conference. Matt Fideler was 11th in the meet with a time of 25:57.
Coy is the son of Rusty and Cindy Coy of Hill City, S.D. He is studying Biology at Dakota State University. Matt is the son of Kenneth and JoAnn Fideler of Volga, S.D. He is majoring in Accounting/Business Management at DSU.
