· The Dakota State University baseball team (5-6 overall record) returns back to the Midwest area Saturday as they play at Briar Cliff (Iowa) (10-11 overall record).

· The Chargers, who are on a four-game winning streak since the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational last week, will host the Trojans in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The doubleheader will be played at Bishop Mueller Field on the campus of Briar Cliff (3303 Rebecca Street) in Sioux City, Iowa.

· Stay tuned to the DSU Athletics website for future updates on schedule changes.  The Trojans won't be hosting the Chargers on Sunday, but will play another doubleheader in Sioux City.  In addition, DSU added a doubleheader on Tuesday versus Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at Flynn Field.  First game of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. in Madison, S.D.

· DSU opened their 2016 season with a pair of shutout victories at Mount Marty (S.D.) on March 5.  The Trojans posted 4-0 and 2-0 doubleheader sweep over the Lancers.

· It was the first time since Feb. 18, 2012 when the Trojans won their season opener.  It was also DSU's first time since 2006 when they earned back-to-back shutout wins.

· Taylor Boerger earned the victory on the pitching mound, while Richard Sternberg had a save in the first game.  Connor Nagel gained the pitching victory in the 2nd game.


· Dakota State (S.D.) went 3-6 record in their week-long Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. last week.

· The Trojans opened up the tournament with a doubleheader loss to William Penn (Iowa) on March 8.

· DSU gained their first win in the Tucson Invitational after holding off Dordt's (Iowa) late rally.  Ian Barker smashed a solo home run in the top eighth inning to put Trojans up 7-5 before the Defenders scored once in the bottom ninth, but Dakota State held on to a 7-6 thriller on March 9.

· After taking a day off on March 10, Dakota State dropped a pair of games to Concordia (Neb.) on March 10.  The Bulldogs won by the scores of 7-4 and 7-2.

· Trailing 6-0 in a nine-inning game with Ashford (Iowa) on March 12, the Trojans stormed back by outscoring the Saints 12-2 in the final five innings of the game.  DSU exploded for seven runs in the top eighth inning to secure the win.

· DSU could not get a victory versus Northwestern (Iowa) on March 14.  NWIA opened up with a 10-0 lead in the first inning before the Trojans answered back with nine runs scored in the top second inning.  Dakota State could not complete their comeback as they fell short by the score of 14-13.  The Red Raiders won the second game 15-4 to complete the sweep.

· The Trojans ended the tournament on a high note, defeating NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.) by the score of 12-7 on March 15.


· Dakota State (S.D.) roared to a 7-0 lead over NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.)—coached by former Trojan Baseball head coach Dean Berry—on March 15.

· The Wolves rallied back within one run after the fourth inning, but DSU scored four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined for a 12-7 lead.

· DSU shut down NSU in the last five innings of the game, finishing out the Tucson Invitational on a high note with a 12-7 win.


· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Friday, Dakota State (S.D.) leads the nation in triples per game with an average of 0.7 triples.

· The Trojans also rank 31st in the nation in total triples with eight.

· DSU have three players in the 'Top 15' for triples per game, led by Ian Barker and Tony Poncia both averaging 0.222 triples per game.  Jake Harris is 12th in the nation with 0.200 triples per game.

· Barker is currently tied for second-most career triples with five in the DSU Baseball record book. 


· Dakota State (S.D.) have three players that lead the nation in fielding percentage of 1.000.  They are Ian Barker, Jake Harris and Jordan Hofer.

· Harris ranks 24th in the nation in runs batted in (RBIs) per game with an average of 1.3 RBIs.  He accumulated a total of 13 RBIs this season.  Harris leads the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) in runs batted in per game.

· He also ranks 47th in the country in batting average of .438.  Harris tallied 14 hits in 32 plate appearances this season for the Trojans.  He is fourth NSAA conference for overall batting average.


· Dakota State (S.D.) will kick off their six-game home stand on Tuesday afternoon at Flynn Field.

· The Trojans host Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Tuesday.  DSU begins NSAA conference play next Friday & Saturday.
