KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dakota State (S.D.) earned 20 points in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Postseason Coaches' Top 25 national poll, the national office announced Wednesday.

The Trojans gained eight more points from the previous poll, which was announced prior to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Selection Show on March 2.  DSU improved to 29th place (in the receiving votes section) on the postseason national poll, moving up five spots from the final regular-season national poll on March 2 (34th place).

Dakota State was in the conference postseason tournament's championship game for five consecutive years, winning four times.  The Trojans had won the last two North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Postseason Tournament and had qualified for the NAIA Division II National Tournament for their fourth time in the last five years.

Dakota State finished 10-4 record in the NSAA conference regular-season play, the most conference wins since 2004-05 when the Trojans were in the former Dakota Athletic Conference with a 12-6 record.

DSU, who also earned their second straight NSAA Men's Basketball Conference Regular-Season Title, fell short in the opening round of the national tournament.  The Trojans lost to current No. 2-ranked team Saint Francis (Ind.), who was ranked No. 1 overall in the national tournament and fell to eventual champion Indiana Wesleyan in the national title game.

The Trojans had a school-record nine-game winning streak before losing to Saint Francis in the national tournament.  It was the seventh straight season that Dakota State has recorded double-digit victories, finishing the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 19-14.  DSU started the season with an overall record of 6-11, but had won 13 of the last 16 games of the season.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.  The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams.  A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
