OMAHA, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) could not hold on to their leads Saturday afternoon at Westgate Field, falling to nationally-ranked No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.) in the North Star Athletic Association conference baseball action.  The Bruins won the first game by the score of 13-4 and held off the Trojans 5-4 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Dakota State fell to 9-14 overall record and 3-3 NSAA conference record.  Bellevue raised their overall record to 25-5 and 5-0 NSAA.

Both teams conclude their NSAA four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday.  They will be traveling south of Omaha as they play at the Roddy Field in Bellevue, Neb. by Bellevue East High School.  First game is slated to start at 12 noon.

Game 1 – #4 Bellevue (Neb.) 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 4 – FINAL

Dakota State earned its first lead in the second inning of the nine-inning game.  Dylan Colman reached on base by a hit.  Jamie Jorgensen drilled an RBI triple with one out to score Colman for DSU's 1-0 lead.

Bellevue's offense exploded for six runs in the bottom third inning.  The Bruins started off with four straight hits and recorded three doubles in the inning, gaining a 6-1 lead.

Jake Browne hit a solo home run to extend BU's lead to 7-1 in the bottom fifth.

The Trojans scored three times in the top sixth inning, reducing Bruins lead down by three runs.  Tyler Ratkie and Jordan Hofer hit back-to-back singles lead off for DSU, followed by Jose Lopez's walk to set up bases loaded situation.  Jake Harris produced a 2-RBI single to score Ratkie and Hofer as the Trojans cut BU's lead to 7-3.  The Trojans trailed at 7-4 after Colman hit an RBI ground out to score Lopez.

With bases loaded in the bottom sixth, Colton Nash collected a 2-RBI single as their lead grew to 9-4.

Todd Nicks' 3-run home run highlighted BU's four-run eighth inning for a 13-4 lead.

DSU went three and out in the final inning as the Bruins secured the win.

Jorgensen and Harris each went 1-of-4 at the plate for the Trojans.  Jorgensen had a triple and an RBI, while Harris recorded a single and two RBIs.  Hofer, Ian Barker and Ratkie each tallied a hit.

Nicks was 2-of-4 at the plate with a home run, single and recorded three RBIs for the Bruins.  Nash added two hits and three RBIs.  Browne had a home run and two RBIs.  Connor Garrison registered three singles and two RBIs.  Matt Evans, Derek Bontempo and Joe Moran each had a double.

BU outhit DSU 15-5 in the game.  The Bruins left seven runners on base compared to the Trojans three runners on base.

Brady Wauer (L, 0-3) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  He worked for 5 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs on 13 hits.  Garrett Mullins pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and gave up four runs on two hits.

Ben McKendall (W, 7-0) earned the victory after pitching seven innings for BU.  He gave up four runs (one unearned) on five hits.  He recorded ten strikeouts.  Tony Monroy tossed two shutout innings in relief.

Game 2 - #4 Bellevue (Neb.) 5, Dakota State (S.D.) 4 – FINAL

The Bruins rallied back from 4-3 deficit with two runs scored in the sixth inning and held off Trojans' upset bid with a 5-4 game two victory (seven-inning game).

Bellevue opened up with a one-run lead in the opening inning.  Jones led off with a walk and swiped to second base.  Ross Feely hit a single and advanced Jones to third base.  Bontempo hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Jones for BU 1-0 lead.

The Trojans responded with two runs in the top second to overtake the lead from the Bruins.  Tony Poncia and Mullins hit back-to-back singles with one out.  Both Poncia and Mullins advanced one base by Bruins' balk.  Richard Sternberg hit an RBI single with two outs to score Poncia to tie the game at 1-1.  Shiquing Santana added an RBI single to score Mullins as the Trojans gained a 2-1 lead.

DSU made it 3-1 in the top third frame, thanks to Poncia's RBI triple to Jorgensen (reached on base by a fielder's choice).

After Colman reached on base by a walk with one out in the top fifth inning, Dakota State extended their lead to 4-1 after Jorgensen drilled an RBI double to score Colman. 

The Bruins ended their scoring drought with two runs scored in the bottom half of the fifth inning.  Moran led off the inning with a double and scored home after another double by Feely.  BU added a run caused by DSU's defensive miscue, cutting the Trojans' lead to 4-3.

Bellevue mounted a comeback in the bottom sixth inning, scoring two runs to take the lead away from the Trojans.  Evans had an RBI single and Garrison added an RBI double as the Bruins earned a 5-4 lead.

Dakota State looked to make their rally in the top seventh inning after Harris and Colman produced back-to-back singles.  After Jorgensen was ground out to second base and advanced Harris and Colman one base, Poncia was hit-by-pitch to set up bases loaded situation with one out for DSU.

Bellevue ended the game with a double play, earning a doubleheader sweep over Dakota State.  The Trojans left two runners on base when game ended.

Poncia was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, single and an RBI for DSU.  Sternberg had two singles and an RBI.  Harris and Colman each added two singles.  Santana and Jorgensen each had a hit and an RBI.  Travis Fleming and Mullins each recorded a single.

Feeley and Evans each tallied two hits and an RBI for Bellevue.  Garrison had a double and an RBI.  Moran had a hit.

DSU outhit BU 12-6.  The Trojans left nine runners on base compared to the Bruins five runners left on base.

Taylor Boerger (L, 2-1) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for Dakota State.  He pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (one unearned) on six hits.  Barker worked for the final out of the sixth inning in relief.

John Timmins started the game for Bellevue.  He tossed three innings and gave up three runs on seven hits.  Zach Larrison worked for 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up one run on three hits.  Leland Tilley (W, 6-1) earned the victory after pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.  He allowed two hits.
