GAME NOTES (PDF) - NSAA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University (S.D.) baseball team (20-25 overall record) begins their postseason play in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference tournament Friday afternoon.

· The Trojans, No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, will take on No. 6 seed Mayville State (N.D.) (28-26) in the opening round of the NSAA Baseball Postseason Conference Tournament at 1 p.m.  The game will be played at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, N.D. hosted by the University of Jamestown (N.D.).

· The NSAA Baseball Conference Tournament is hosted by Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.).  The tournament will be played at both sites Friday and Saturday with the final four teams remaining to be played in Jamestown Sunday.  The championship game is set for Monday in Jamestown.

TROJANS CLOSE NSAA PLAY STRONG

· Dakota State (S.D.) closed the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference season by winning three of the four games with Waldorf (Iowa).

· The Warriors won a pitcher's duel in the first game in Forest City, Iowa on April 29 by the score of 2-1.

· The Trojans would take the final three games of the four-game series with WU, holding the Warriors to just one run in each of the game.  DSU won by the score of 7-1 on April 29 and returned back to the Flynn Field with 7-1 and 3-1 doubleheader sweep.

· Dakota State won 7 of the last 9 NSAA conference games of the season.

· Jamie Jorgensen drilled three doubles in a doubleheader split with the Warriors on April 29.

· Garrison Collier struck out a career-high nine batters in DSU's 7-1 victory in the second game of the four-game series.  The Trojans used a late offensive surge by scoring a combined 7 runs in the last two innings of the game.

· A pair of Trojan starting pitchers tossed a complete game in a doubleheader sweep over WU on May 1.  Ian Barker pitched a complete nine inning game for DSU's 7-1 victory.

· Richard Sternberg added another complete game victory in a seven-inning 3-1 victory over the Warriors in the regular-season finale.  Shiquina Santana hit his first career-home run (2-run home run in the fourth inning).

· The Trojans held the Warriors, who were leading the NSAA conference in hits, to .180 batting average in the four-game series.  DSU's earned runs averaged (ERA) was 1.45 in the four-game series.

· Jorgensen batted .500 in the series, highlighted with three doubles on April 29 (.714 slugging percentage). 

· Jordan Hofer and Santana each hit a home run in the series for the Trojans.

· Tyler Ratkie, Hofer and Tony Poncia each tallied four hits in the series.

DSU IN BRACKET B OF THE NSAA BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

· The NSAA Baseball Postseason Tournament features a pair of brackets—Bracket A and Bracket B.  There are four teams in each bracket, using a four-team double-elimination format. 

· Dakota State (S.D.) is the No. 3 seed in the Bracket B section of the tournament along with No. 2 seed Jamestown (N.D.) and No. .7 seed Viterbo (Wis.).  DSU-MSU game kicks off at 1 p.m. Friday followed by UJ-VU game at 4 p.m.

· Bracket A features top-seed Bellevue (Neb.), No. 4 seed Dickinson State (N.D.), No. 5 seed Waldorf (Iowa) and No. 8 seed Valley City State (N.D.).  Bracket A will play in Valley City, N.D. on Friday and Saturday.

· The double-elimination continues through Sunday with the final two remaining teams in each bracket, playing at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, N.D.

· The NSAA Conference Championship game is set for Monday in Jamestown, N.D.

· Bellevue (Neb.) has already clinched the first league automatic bid to the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round on May 17-20 after winning the regular-season outright.

· The winner of the NSAA Baseball Postseason Conference Tournament will receive the second automatic bid to the national tournament.  If Bellevue enters the conference championship game, Bracket B winner will receive the automatic bid.

· All games will be nine-inning game, with ten-run mercy rule after seven innings.  There is no ten-run mercy rule in the championship game.
