MADISON, S.D. – Two Dakota State (S.D.) baseball athletes were tabbed as North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Honorable Mention, announced by the conference office Tuesday.  They are Jacob Arlt and Tony Poncia.

Each NSAA member are allowed to have two honorable mention for their baseball All-Conference honors.

Arlt, a freshman first baseman for the Trojans, is second-leading batting average on the team.  He batted .361 in 41 games this season, going 39-of-108 at the plate.  He posted a slugging percentage of .509 with seven doubles and smashed three home runs. 

Arlt registered an on-base percentage of .483 after leading the team with 25 walks and was hit-by-pitch seven times.  He swiped two bases.

Defensively, Arlt led Dakota State with 262 put-outs.  He also had 40 assists and just committed eight errors for a fielding percentage of .974.  According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Wednesday, Arlt ranks 49th in the nation in chances per game with an average of 7.6 chances.  He accumulated 310 chances in 2016.

Arlt is second on the team with a batting average of .383 during NSAA conference play (23-of-60 in 21 NSAA games).  He hit four doubles and two home runs (.550 slugging percentage), along with 16 times reaching on bases by a walk (.536 on-base percentage).

Jacob is the son of John and Carol Arlt of Hutchinson, Minn.  He is a Financial Business major at Dakota State University.

Poncia, a senior third baseman for DSU, is fourth on the team with .317 batting average.  He recorded 39 hits in 123 plate appearances (41 games played).  He collected four doubles and four triples for a slugging percentage of .415.  He reached on base-on-balls 19 times and was hit-by-pitch 13 times (team high).  He swiped two bases.

Poncia recorded 88 assists defensively for the Trojans.  He was 21-of-73 (.288 batting average) and hit two doubles and two home runs during NSAA conference play.

Tony is the son of Dave and Tamara Poncia of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.  He is an Exercise Science major at Dakota State University.
