DSU BASEBALL SCHOOL RECORD BOOK

MADISON, S.D. – Two Dakota State University (S.D.) baseball athletes are listed in the school record book after the 2016 season.  The Trojans finished the season with an overall record of 20-27 and 13-10 record in the North Star Athletic Association conference play.  DSU finished third in the NSAA conference standings, their most conference victories since joining the NSAA conference and first time since 2010 that the Trojans recorded a winning percentage in the conference play.

Ian Barker, 2016 NSAA Baseball All-Conference Second Team Designated Hitter, broke the DSU school record in career triples with seven.  He broke that school record during the third game of the four-game series versus Viterbo (Wis.) on April 24 at Flynn Field.  The previous record was held by Danny Flahie (2013-14) and Chaz Palmer (2010-13) with six career triples each.

Tony Poncia, who was named to NSAA Baseball All-Conference Honorable Mention, was also listed in the DSU Baseball record book.  He tied for the fifth most career triples with four, all in 2016.  He is tied with four other former Trojans athletes with four career triples – Rays Roman (2012-13), Chris Ebnet (2006), Brooks Marquardt (2003-04) and Brandon Jiles (2005).

Barker and Poncia each registered four triples in 2016, tying for second-most triples in a single season with three other past Trojan athletes – Josh Wells (2006), Ebnet (2006) and Jiles (2005).  Flahie holds the DSU school record with five triples in a single season in 2014.

Barker was also listed in the Trojan Baseball school record book in the home runs categories.  He blasted a total of 10 home runs in 2016, tying for the third most home runs in a single season with Josh Tiede (2010) and Evan Hogan (2003).

Barker racked up a total of 19 career home runs at Dakota State.  It was the second most career home runs in the DSU Baseball school record book (Anyelo Roman holds the school record with 25 career home runs from 2012-13).
