MADISON, S.D. – The DSUAthletics.com continues their coverage of looking back to athletic accomplishments, sports moments or stories during the 2015-16 academic year.  Thursday's edition of looking back highlights Ian Barker where he smashed a total of six home runs during the week, earning a prestigious weekly honor from the NAIA national office for his performances during that week.

After being recognized as the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Baseball Player-of-the-Week on April 25, Barker has been named the NAIA Baseball Player-of-Week announced by the national office on April 26 for his accomplishments during the week of April 18-24.

He played in five of the six Trojan baseball games during that week where they went 4-2 record.  He was 12-of-20 at the plate (.600 batting average), blasted six home runs, two doubles and a triple.  Barker also drove in 12 runs and recorded an on-base percentage of .619.  He had four multi-hits games during the week, recording three hits in the game three times.

Barker smashed two home runs during DSU's 5-2 game two victory over in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on April 19.  He drove in all five runs, belting a 2-run home run in the bottom fourth inning for 2-0 DSU lead.  He later hit a game-winning 3-run home run in the bottom sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 lead.

Barker added another two home runs in Dakota State's 15-6 NSAA 4-game series opener over Viterbo (Wis.) on April 23.  He hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the opening inning for DSU's 2-0 lead.  He began DSU's three consecutive home runs in the bottom eighth inning, where he started off with a 2-run home run, followed by Jacob Arlt and Jamie Jorgensen with back-to-back solo home runs.

Tied 6-6 in the second game of the NSAA's four-game series versus the V-Hawks on April 23, Barker hit a 3-run home run over the center field as the Trojans went on to win by the score of 9-6.

Barker drilled a triple on his first at-bat on April 24 versus VU, despite an 8-6 10-inning loss in the third game of the four-game series.  It was his seventh career triple at DSU, breaking a new school record for career triples.  He almost recorded a cycle in the game, where he was 3-of-5 at the plate with a triple, double, single and drove in a run.

In the four-game series finale versus Viterbo on April 24, Barker was 2-of-4 at the plate with two singles in Trojans' 6-5 8-inning thriller.  He earned a no decision on the pitching mound as he tossed seven innings.  He allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out five VU's batters.

Barker recorded at least one hit, one home run and one RBI in four-of-five games for the Trojans.  He hit an impressive 1.700 slugging percentage for the week.
