This Week
Dakota State (S.D.) begins their 2016 season, under the guidance of third-year head coach Anthony Drealan, Friday evening as they compete in the sixth annual Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet.  The women's collegiate race is expected to start at 8 p.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 8:45 p.m.

About Augustana (S.D.) Twilight Meet
Augustana (S.D.) is the host for this unique prime-time meet by sunset, featuring high school and collegiate runners from the Midwest region.  This Friday's meet will feature over 30 collegiate programs, including the likes of NCAA Division I Nebraska and Kansas State.  The race will also include over 40 high school programs competing prior to the collegiate race.  The women are set to run three miles while the men are scheduled to run four miles.  All races will be held at the Yankton Trail Park located by Interstate 229 between Minnesota and Western Avenues exits in Sioux Falls, S.D.  There will be lights, music and food trucks at this cross country meet.  Follow the live scoring results on http://dt.timerhub.com/xc (official results) or find the official results on http://timerhub.com/eddea82ad2755b24c4e168c5fc2ebd40.html (live unofficial results as each runner crosses the finish line).  The top 20 in each race will receive a Twilight t-shirt.  Team scoring will be split into NCAA Division I/Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college.

2014 Season Recap—Mayfield earned NSAA All-Conference honor
Dakota State (S.D.) hosted its first-ever automatic team qualifying North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference meet at the Madison Country Club on Nov. 7, 2015.  Karen Mayfield earned All-Conference honor after placing in the top 10 individually in the women's 5K race.  She finished with a time of 20 minutes, 26 seconds, placing sixth which was one place short for qualifying to the NAIA Nationals cross country meet.  As a team, the Trojans placed fifth in the women's division while the men's finished sixth as a team.  Michael Carson was the top Trojan men's returning runner, placing 18th with a time of 28 minutes, 36 seconds in the 8K race.

NSAA Women's and Men's Cross Country Preseason Polls
Dickinson State (N.D.) is the preseason coaches' favorite to win the women's division of the 2016 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference title.  Jamestown (N.D.) was picked to finish second, followed by Viterbo (Wis.) third, Valley City State (N.D.) fourth, Dakota State (S.D.) fifth and Waldorf (Iowa) sixth.  On the men's side, Warriors edged out Blue Hawks for the top spot in the preseason coaches' poll.  The Jimmies were predicted to finish third, followed by Trojans fourth, V-Hawks fifth and Vikings sixth.  The NSAA Women's and Men's Cross Conference Championship meets will be held in Dickinson, N.D. on Nov. 5.  The winner of each division will receive the NSAA's team automatic bid to the NAIA Cross Country Championships to be held in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 19.

2016 DSU Cross Country Schedule Overview
Dakota State (S.D.) is scheduled to run in five regular-season meets before competing in the postseason conference meet this fall.  The Trojans open up their season on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D. and will return home on Saturday, Sept. 10 as they host the annual Herb Blakely Invitational at the Madison Country Club.  After taking a week off, DSU is slated to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by NCAA Division I Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn. on Sept. 24.  Dakota State is scheduled to run in a pair of meets during the month of October, running in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational on Oct. 8 and Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational on Oct. 22.  The NSAA conference meet is set for Nov. 5 in Dickinson, N.D. while the NAIA Cross Country National Championships is set for Nov. 19 in Charlotte, N.C.

2016 DSU Cross Country Roster Breakdown
There are a total of 18 combined runners on the Dakota State University cross country teams.  There are 12 runners on the men's team, with five seniors on the roster.  Michael Carson, Taylor Hauge, Caleb Hemphill, Karen Mayfield and Victoria SopkoMercedes Jochims, Tyra Laws, Mark Moeller and Claudio Tejada are the juniors on the roster list.  Lindsey Bohl and Corey Hermann are DSU's sophomore runners.  There are seven freshmen runners on the Trojans' cross country teams.  They are Maxwell Cruse, Braden Curnow, Alex Derr, Cameron Harming, Jonathan Lein, Mitchell Peters and Ashley RobinsonAlex Horstman is the student manager for the Trojans.  Anthony Drealan is in his third year Trojan Cross Country Head Coach, assisted by Cory Foreman.

A Look Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) returns home as they host the annual Herb Blakely Invitational at the Madison Country Club, located west on South Dakota Highway 34 and United States Highway 81.  The women's 5K race kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8K race to follow at approximately 11:15 a.m.
