YANKTON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's and women's cross country teams ran in their final regular season meet at the Mount Marty Invitational Saturday. The meet was held at the Human Services Center. The Trojan men's team finished fifth while the women's team placed 17th.
The Trojans competed against NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools along with members from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and fellow DAC conference teams.
DSU men's team placed fifth out of 21 teams with 183 points. No. 8 Concordia (Neb.) captured the team title with 73 points. NCAA Division III Colorado College was second with 104 points, followed by Black Hills State third with 113 points. NCAA Division II Wayne State was fourth with 145 points. A total of 236 runners participated in the 8K men's race.
Devon Berkness placed 14th with a time of 25 minutes and 55 seconds. Matt Fideler finished nine seconds behind Berkness for a 16th place finish (26:04). Andy Coy was 19th with a time of 26:08. Michael Hoffman was 67th in 27:41. Clint Lewis placed 80th with a time of 28:21.
On the women's side, DSU finished 17th out of 20 teams with 507 points. No. 15 Black Hills State the team race by scoring 72 points. NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) was second with 79 points. No. 8 Concordia (Neb.) was third with 127 points. A total of 208 runners competed in the women's 5K race.
Stephanie Warnke finished 25th with a time of 19 minutes and 11 seconds. Samantha Drealan placed 108th (20:52). Carissa Holtrop crossed the finish line in 170th place with a time of 22:48. Nicole Jurrens placed 200th in 24:49 and Sara Schulte was 204th (26:15).
Dakota State competes in the DAC Cross Country Conference Championships meet on Friday, Nov. 5th. The meet will be held in Jamestown, N.D., hosted by Jamestown College.
The NAIA National Cross Country Championships will be held on Nov. 21 in Vancouver, Wash.
