The Dakota State University cross country teams prepare for their final regular-season meet Saturday morning as they compete in the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational.  The race will be held at the Human Service off of Highway 81 in north Yankton, S.D.

About Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational
Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational will be in their 23rd year in running the meet on Saturday morning, kicking off with the women's 5K race at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8K race to follow at 11:15 a.m.  Numerous teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference along with four North Star Athletic Association conference will compete on Saturday.  The four NSAA members that are scheduled to make an appearance are Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Jamestown (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.).  The meet will be held at the Human Service right off by US Highway 81 in Yankton (3515 Broadway Street).  Over 125 runners are expected to run in each race.     

Four Trojan women's runners post best times at Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational
All four Dakota State (S.D.) runners posted best times at the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational on Oct. 8 at Adams Nature Preserve.  A total of 168 runners competed in the women's 5K race, led by DSU's Karen Mayfield with a 66th-place finish with a season-best time of 20 minutes.  Ashley Robinson added a 115th-place finish with a new personal best time of 21 minutes, 40 seconds.  Victoria Sopko clocked a season-best time of 22 minutes to place 125th.  Tyra Laws was 137th with a season-best time of 22 minutes, 40 seconds in the race for Dakota State.

DSU men's place 11th at BC Invitational, second-best team from the state of South Dakota
Dakota State (S.D.) finished 11th overall in the men's 8K race at the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational on Oct. 8.  The Trojans scored a total of 283 points, which was also the second-best team from the state of South Dakota in the cross country meet behind NCAA Division II Sioux Falls (S.D.).  DSU finished ahead of Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and Mount Marty (S.D.) and host-team Briar Cliff in the team standings.

Ten Trojan men's runners record best times at Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational
All ten (10) Dakota State (S.D.) men's runners posted best times in the 8K race at Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational on Oct. 8.  A total of 157 runners completed the men's 8K race.  The Trojans were led by three freshmen posting their personal best record times this season, with Branden Curnow's 38th-place finish in 27 minutes.  Alex Derr added a 60th-place finish in 27 minutes, 39 seconds.  Maxwell Cruse was 75h with a time of 27 minutes, 54 seconds.  Senior Mark Moeller clocked a season-best time of 28 minutes, 21 seconds for an 87th-place finish.  Freshman Cameron Harming also earned a personal best time of 28 minutes, 37 seconds to finish 91st for the Trojans, followed by senior Michael Carson 92nd-place finish with a season-best time of 28 minutes, 38 seconds.  Taylor Hauge ran for the first time this season and earned a season-best time of 28 minutes, 54 seconds to gain a 103rd-place finish.  Jonathan Lein was 123rd with his personal best time of 30 minutes, 2 seconds.  Corey Herman placed 126th with a season-best time of 30:11, while Caleb Hemphill was 129th with a season-best time of 30:31.

Regionally Speaking...
Dakota State (S.D.) men's cross country team remains third in the North Star Athletic Association conference rankings as of Oct. 10.  Waldorf (Iowa) stays at the top spot in the men's division, followed by Dickinson State (N.D.) second.  Viterbo (Wis.) moved up to fourth place, while Jamestown (N.D.) dropped to fifth place.  Valley City State (N.D.) ranks sixth in the North Star conference rankings.  On the women's side, the Trojans are ranked fourth in the conference rankings.  Dickinson State is the top-ranked team in the conference, followed by Jamestown second and Viterbo third.  Waldorf is fifth while Valley City State is sixth in the conference rankings.  The next conference rankings will come out on Oct. 24.

North Star Athletic Association conference meet set for Nov. 5
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Cross Country Conference Championships is set for Saturday, Nov. 5.  The NSAA conference cross country meet will be hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.).  The meet is scheduled for 12 p.m. (Central Time)/11 a.m. (Mountain Time) with the team winner in each division advancing to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 19. 

North Farm hosts 2016 Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 19
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has selected the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill., as the host facility for the 2016 NAIA Men's & Women's Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 19.  The North Farm Cross Country Course is located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo.  The women's 5K championships will kick off the action at North Farm, which will be followed by the men's 8K championships.  The 2016 championships will be the 61st annual men's event and the 37th yearly competition for the women.
