YANKTON, S.D. – Six Dakota State (S.D.) runners posted season-best times Saturday morning in the 23rd Annual Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational at Human Services Center.  The Trojan men's cross country team finished sixth overall as a team, while the women's team placed ninth overall.

DSU scored 196 points in the men's 8K race team, which featured a total of 11 teams in the team standings with a total of 103 runners that completed the race.  Northwestern (Iowa) won the team title with 31 points as Will Norris won the individual title with a time of 24 minutes, 39 seconds.

The Trojans were the second-best North Star Athletic Association team in the cross country meet (Dickinson State was the top NSAA team in the meet with a fourth-place finish with 122 points), placing higher than Valley City State (N.D.) who placed ninth with 228 points and Jamestown (N.D.) with an 11th-place finish with 241 points.

Braden Curnow led DSU men's with a 25th-place finish, clocking a time of 27 minutes, 20 seconds.  Cameron Harming finished 41st with a personal-best time of 27 minutes, 56 seconds, followed by Claudio Tejada's 44th-place finish with a season-best time of 28 minutes, 8 seconds.

Michael Carson also earned a season-best time of 28 minutes, 30 seconds to place 54th for the Trojans.  Maxwell Cruse was 66th in 29 minutes, 13 seconds.  Taylor Hauge clocked a time of 29 minutes, 44 seconds, followed by Caleb Hemphill's 70th-place finish with a season-best time of 29 minutes, 57 seconds.

Corey Hermann posted a season-best time of 30 minutes, 3 seconds to place 74th for Dakota State.  Jonathan Lein was 80th in 30 minutes, 59 seconds.

DSU women's cross country team scored 230 points in 5K meet with a total 110 runners.  Dordt (Iowa) won the team title after scoring 32 points.  Tiffany Shepherd of Morningside (Iowa) claimed the individual title in 18 minutes, 24 seconds.

Karen Mayfield led the Trojans with a 42nd-place with a time of 20 minutes, 47 seconds.  Ashley Robinson added a 69th-place finish with a time of 22 minutes, 5 seconds.

Tyra Laws registered a season-best time of 22 minutes, 32 seconds to earn a 78th-place finish for DSU.  Victoria Sopko followed up with a time of 22 minutes, 33 seconds to place 79th.

Mercedes Jochims made her collegiate debut with a 104th-place finish in 25 minutes, 24 seconds for the Trojans.

Dakota State prepares for the postseason race on Saturday, Nov. 5.  The Trojans – along with five other NSAA members – compete for the team automatic bid to the NAIA National Cross Country Championships as they run in the NSAA conference meet.  The conference meet is held in Dickinson, N.D., hosted by Dickinson State.
