MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) extended their season-high winning streak to four matches Friday evening after recording a key 3-0 North Star Athletic Association Volleyball sweep over Dickinson State (N.D.) at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans outhit the Blue Hawks 41-37 in the match.

Dakota State raised their overall record to 11-17 and 5-7 record in the North Star.  The Trojans completed a season series sweep over the Blue Hawks, winning the first meeting in a 3-0 sweep in Dickinson, N.D. on Sept. 30.  The Blue Hawks fell to 10-17 overall record and 6-7 NSAA record. 

DaSU had won the last eight meetings with the Blue Hawks, including a 6-0 record during the North Star conference play.

The Trojans hold a half-match lead for fifth-place in the conference standings.  Dickinson State is fourth, where the NSAA conference standings for fourth through eighth-place teams are only separated by 2.5 matches.

Dakota State opened up with a 19-16 lead in the first set, forcing the Blue Hawks to call its first timeout of the set.  The Trojans extended their lead to 23-19 before DiSU rallied back with a 5-1 scoring run to knot the first set at 24-24.

Carly Rozell and Taylor Stratton each smashed a kill as Dakota State closed the first set with a 26-24 victory, gaining a 1-0 match lead.  DaSU hit .302 in the opening set with 17 kills and 4 errors in 43 attempts, while holding the Blue Hawks to .151 hitting percentage (15 kills with 7 errors in 53 attempts).

Trailing 5-4 in the second set, Dakota State went on an 8-1 scoring tear – including scoring five straight points – to take the biggest lead at 12-6.  The Trojans maintained that lead throughout the second set, where the Blue Hawks could get no closer than three points at 21-18.  DaSU took a 2-0 match lead after closing the set with a 4-1 run for a 25-19 victory, thanks to a kill by Rozell to secure the second set.

Both teams had 11 kills in the second set.

Dickinson State jumped to a 5-1 lead in the third set, but the Trojans answered back with a 6-2 run to tie at 7-7.  Both teams went through a see-saw battle with six ties and the lead with no more than two points.

Down 19-18, the Trojans scored four consecutive points to overtake a 22-19 lead.  The Blue Hawks answered back with two points after the timeout to cut DaSU's lead to 22-21.

After a service error by Dickinson State to give Trojans a 23-21 lead, Clarissa Blick sealed off the match by recording two straight service aces for a 25-21 set three victory and a three-set sweep over the Blue Hawks.

Dakota State hit .225 in the third set with 13 kills and 4 errors in 40 attempts.  Dickinson State was held to .071 hitting efficiency (11 kills with 8 errors in 42 attempts).

Rozell and Blick each smashed 11 kills for the Trojans.  Tessa Weeldreyer added nine kills and hit .409 in the match.  Stratton had five kills.

Blick posted a double-double with 16 digs for Dakota State.  Chelsey Davis had a match-high 20 digs. 

McKenna DeMoe produced 19 set assists for DaSU.  Kaylee Vander Wal added 15 assists.  DeMoe and Blick each had two service aces.

Kirstin Johnson, Rozell and Weeldreyer each tallied four block assists for Dakota State.  Stratton had three block assists.

Brenna Hansen and Sydney Bentz each had 10 kills for Dickinson State.  Danielle Boyette recorded a double-double of 19 assists and 11 digs.  Keera Stookey added a double-double of 10 assists and 10 digs.

Shelby Gustafson and Ellie Hanser each registered three block assists for the Blue Hawks.  Shaylee Singleton had 10 digs.

Dakota State hit .227 in the match (41 kills with 14 errors in 119 attempts) compared to Dickinson State .115 hitting efficiency (37 kills with 22 errors in 131 attempts). 

The Trojans had 8.5 blocks while the Blue Hawks had 6 team blocks.

Dakota State closes out their home regular-season schedule Saturday evening versus No. 20-ranked Jamestown (N.D.).  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojan Volleyball team will be recognizing the seniors prior to the match.

Dickinson State stays on the road as they play a pair of matches in the Bellevue (Neb.) triangular.  The Blue Hawks play No. 21-ranked Bellevue in the North Star contest and Grace (Neb.) in a non-conference match.
