McCOOK LAKE, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's and men's cross country teams ran in the Briar Cliff Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at the Adams Nature Preserve.
The Trojans competed with all GPAC teams, fellow DAC member Black Hills State and NCAA Division II Wayne State.
DSU men's team placed 4th out of 15 teams with 131 points. Concordia (Neb.), No. 9 in the latest NAIA Men's Cross Country National Poll, captured the team title with 51 points. A total of 182 runners ran in the 8K men's race.
Matt Fideler placed 8th with a time of 25 minutes and 36.09 seconds. Devon Berkness finished right behind Fideler for ninth place. He completed the course in 25:41.09. Andy Coy finished with a time of 26:01.82a 14th place finish.
Other DSU place finishers were Michael Hoffman (53rd-27:30.80), John Bintliff (70th-28:00.21), Kace Goff (84th-28:30.72) and Andrew Manning (106th-29:08.86).
On the women's side, DSU finished 12th out of 13 teams with 311 points. Concordia (Neb.), No. 11 in the latest NAIA Women's Cross Country National Poll, also won the women's race with a total of 42 points. A total of 154 runners ran the 5K course.
Stephanie Warnke finished 22nd with a time of 18 minutes and 51.80 seconds. Samantha Drealan placed 38th for DSU with a time of 19:19.45
Other runners that placed for DSU were Carissa Holtrop (137th -22:54.37), Nicole Jurrens (145th -23:59.63) and Sara Schultz (147th -24:04.25).
Dakota State will compete in their final regular season meet on October 23. The Trojans will travel to Yankton, S.D. to compete in the Mount Marty/Graphic Edge Invitational. Race time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
