After taking a week off from the previous regular-season meet finale, the Dakota State University (S.D.) women's and men's cross country prepare for the upcoming postseason meet on Saturday morning.  The Trojans compete in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Cross Country Conference Championships in Dickinson, N.D.  The meet kicks off at 12 p.m. (Central Time)/11 a.m. (Mountain Time).

About North Star Athletic Association Cross Country Meet
The 2016 North Star Athletic Association Cross Country Championships are hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.) on Saturday.  The meet will be held at the Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson, N.D. at 2510 8th Street SW (zip code—58601).  The championship races will be run on the first nine holes of the course with both races starting on the fairway of hole No. 9 and finish on the fairway of hole No. 3.  Admission into the NSAA Cross Country Championship meet is free.  Participating schools include Dakota State, Dickinson State, Jamestown (N.D.), Valley City State (N.D.), Viterbo (Wis.) and Waldorf (Iowa).  For official results, visit  The men's 8K race kicks off at 12 p.m. (Central Time)/11 a.m. (Mountain Time) with the women's 5K race to follow at approximately 12:45 p.m. (CT)/11:45 a.m. (MT).  The weather forecast calls for sunny and dry conditions this weekend with the high temperatures in the 60's.  The wind will be from the south from 5 to 10 miles-per-hour.

NSAA Cross Country Automatic Team Bid and Individual Qualifiers/All-Conference
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference have one automatic team bid to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, which is to be held on Nov. 19 in Elsah, Ill.  The NSAA conference awards the automatic bid to the team that win each division (women's and men's).  The individual qualifiers to the NAIA national cross country meet must be in the top 4 from the non-winning team, as well as each runner have to be in the top 15 in each division.  The NSAA All-Conference honors are given to the Top 10 overall individuals in each race.  The official awards ceremony and a buffet lunch will be held at the Henry Biesiot Activities Center (BAC) (address:  398 State Avenue North in Dickinson, N.D.) after the races at 2:30 p.m. (Central Time)/1:30 p.m. (Mountain Time).  Lunch buffet is a $9 charge at the door.

NSAA Men's Cross Country Conference Preview
Waldorf (Iowa), Dickinson State (N.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.) held steady throughout the season in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Cross Country conference bi-weekly rankings.  The Blue Hawks cruised to the NSAA conference title last season in Madison, S.D. with a low score of 24, followed by the Warriors with a second-place finish with a score of 71.  The Trojans placed sixth overall as a team with 125 points at the Madison Country Club.  Dakota State won the first-ever North Star conference title in 2014 at the meet held in Billings, Mont.  Michael Carson placed 18th overall with a time of 29 minutes, 6 seconds in last year's conference meet, followed by Claudio Tejada with a 20th-place finish in 29:08. 

NSAA Women's Cross Country Conference Preview
Dakota State (S.D.) held their No. 4 ranking throughout the season in the North Star Athletic Association Women's Cross Country conference bi-weekly ratings.  Viterbo (Wis.) is No. 1 spot in the conference rankings, followed by Dickinson State (N.D.) at No. 2 and Jamestown (N.D.) at No. 3 spot.  Waldorf (Iowa) is fifth, while Valley City State (N.D.) is sixth.  The Blue Hawks edged the Jimmies 42-49 in last year's NSAA conference meet in Madison, S.D.  The Trojans were fifth as a team with a score of 122 points.  Karen Mayfield earned the 2015 NSAA Women's Cross Country All-Conference honor after placing sixth overall with a time of 20 minutes, 26 seconds.  She was just one place short of qualifying for the NAIA national meet.  Victoria Sopko was 29th in 23:37, followed by Tyra Laws with a 32nd place in 24:22 in last year's conference meet.

DSU men's 6th, women's 9th at Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational
Six Dakota State (S.D.) runners posted season-best times on Oct. 22 in their final regular-season meet in the 23rd Annual Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational at Human Service in Yankton.  The Trojan men's cross country team finished sixth overall as a team with 196 points, led by Braden Curnow with a 25th-place finish in 27:20.  Cameron Harming added a personal-best time of 27:56 for 41st place finish.  The Trojans were the second-best NSAA conference team in the meet behind Dickinson State (N.D.).  On the women's side, Dakota State placed ninth overall with 230 points.  Karen Mayfield led DSU with a 42nd place finish in 20 minutes, 47 seconds.  Ashley Robinson was 69th in 22:05 while Tyra Laws registered a season-best time of 22:32 for 78th-place finish.

North Farm hosts 2016 Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 19
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has selected the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill., as the host facility for the 2016 NAIA Men's & Women's Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 19.  The North Farm Cross Country Course is located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo.  The women's 5K championships will kick off the action at North Farm, which will be followed by the men's 8K championships.  The 2016 championships will be the 61st annual men's event and the 37th yearly competition for the women.
