WOMEN'S - MEN'S

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Friday on the day prior to the NAIA Cross Country Championship national meets that a combined 557 runners (335 women's and 222 men's) have been named to 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Two Dakota State (S.D.) runners are listed on the 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athlete list.  They are (name, academic year, parents' names, hometown, major at Dakota State University):

  • Michael Carson – Senior – son of Tom and Tammy Carson – Dakota City, Neb. – Cyber Security/Network Security – 2-time Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athlete (3 total times Carson was honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete – 2016 Track season)
  • Victoria Sopko – Senior – daughter of Jason and Emily Sopko – Forest City, Iowa – Elementary Education – 3-time Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athlete (5 total times Sopko was honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete – 2015 and 2016 Track seasons)
