GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK—DRAEMEL CLASSIC

· The Dakota State (S.D.) University men's basketball team (3-4 overall record), ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 national poll, continues their action away from the DSU Fieldhouse with a pair of games this weekend.

· The Trojans play two games against a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in annual Draemel Classic, hosted by Midland (Neb.), at the Events Center (900 North Clarkson) in Fremont, Neb.

· DSU kicks off the classic with a match-up against Morningside (Iowa) (5-1 overall record) on Saturday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

· On Sunday afternoon, Dakota State face No. 21-ranked and host-team Midland (6-1) for the second time this month.  The game is slated for 3 p.m.  MU pulled away late in the second-half for a 73-63 victory over the Trojans at DSU Fieldhouse on Nov. 9.

· Sunday's game will mark the fourth time this month that DSU had faced the NAIA's Top 25 nationally-ranked team.  The Trojans are seeking for the first win over the NAIA's Top 25 team this year.

· Midland (Neb.) will have the live video webcast of their men's basketball games in the Draemel Classic this weekend.

TROJANS WIN FIRST ROAD GAME WITH SEASON-HIGH POINTS

· Dakota State (S.D.) used their balanced scoring offense attack as they earned their first road victory of the season on Nov. 15.

· The Trojans scored a season-high 101 points in 101-77 victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.).  DSU trailed as many as eight points in the first-half and outscored the Lions 59-37 in the second-half after holding a slim 42-40 halftime lead.

· Six Trojan players hit double digits in points, led by Tanner Hesier with 20 points (7-of-11 field goals).  Kevin Daniels added 17 points off the bench (8-of-17 field goals).  Justin Folkers had 16 points while Bobby Farquah had 11 points.  Marquis Chatman scored 10 points.

· Folkers pulled down nine rebounds for DSU.  Farquah added eight boards and Heiser with seven rebounds.

· Dakota State shot 47 percent overall from the field, hitting 39 field goals in 83 attempts.  DSU was 12-of-32 from the 3-point arc (37.5 percent).  TBC was 40 percent from the field (26-of-65) and 7-of-26 from the 3-point line (26.9 percent).

CHARGERS' FAST START DOOMS DSU

· Dakota State (S.D.) could not overcome No. 4-ranked Briar Cliff's (Iowa) fast start after they opened up the game with an 11-0 run on Nov. 19 in Sioux City, Iowa.

· The Trojans could get no closer than five points at 14-9 with 14:34 left in the first-half.  The Chargers cruised past the Trojans 94-74 in the early battle of the NAIA's Top 25-ranked teams.

· Ian Barse and Bobby Farquah each scored 19 points for DSU.  Barse was 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-6 3-pointers.  Farquah made 9 baskets in 14 attempts.

· Tanner Heiser led the Trojans with seven rebounds and dished out four assists.  Brendon Boomsma had seven points.  Nathaniel Rauen stole the ball three times.

· DSU shot 42.4 percent from the field (28-of-66) compared to BCU 50.8 percent (32-of-63).  The Chargers outrebounded the Trojans 43-29.

DSU'S BALANCED OFFENSE ATTACK

· Seven Dakota State (S.D.) players are averaging at least 7.0 points per game this season.

· Four Trojans are averaging in double-figures in points, led by Tanner Heiser with 18.4 points per game.

· Kyle Kilgore is averaging 11.7 points per game, followed by Kevin Daniels who is averaging 11.6 points per game.  Ian Barse averages 10.9 points per game for the Trojans.

· According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, Dakota State ranks 48th in the nation in total scoring offense with 574 points.

· The Trojans averages 9.6 3-pointers made per game, which is 31st best in the nation.  DSU made a total of 67 3-pointers this season.

· Heiser is 27th in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game with an average of 3.1.  He is 29th in most 3-pointers made with 22.

· DSU also ranks third-best in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.8.  As a team, the Trojans average 17.0 assists and 9.7 turnovers per game this season.

DSU VERSUS THE GPAC

· Dakota State (S.D.) is 2-4 record against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference this season.

· The Trojans recorded 90-89 win over Northwestern (Iowa) on Oct. 27 and 98-78 victory over Mount Marty (S.D.) on Nov. 6.

· After playing their seventh and eight games against GPAC teams this weekend, DSU will play two more games from the GPAC conference later this season.  The Trojans host Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 2 and visit Mount Marty on Jan. 29.

TROJANS TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Tanner Heiser—129 points (18.4 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Kyle Kilgore—61.5 percent (16-of-26 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Tanner Heiser—44.9 percent (22-of-49 3-point field goals)

· Free-throw percentage:  Bobby Farquah—77.8 percent (7-of-9 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Tanner Heiser—38 rebounds (5.4 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—30 assists—35th in the nation (4.3 assists per game—44th in the nation)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—11 steals (1.6 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Bobby Farquah—5 blocks (0.7 blocked shots per game)

DSU PREPARES FOR NSAA PLAY

· Dakota State (S.D.) kicks off their North Star Athletic Association conference play on Dec. 2, starting their four-game road stretch in conference play.

· The Trojans visit Presentation (S.D.) on Dec. 2, Jamestown (N.D.) on Dec. 4, Valley City State (N.D.) on Dec. 9 and Dickinson State (N.D.) on Dec. 14.  DSU returns back home on Dec. 16 versus Waldorf (Iowa) and Dec. 17 versus Viterbo (Wis.).
