FREMONT, Neb. – Midland (Neb.) shot 54.2 percent overall from the field Sunday afternoon in the final game of the annual Draemel Classic, defeating Dakota State (S.D.) 88-68 in the early battle of the NAIA's Top 25 teams at the Events Center.  The Warriors swept the season series with the Trojans, winning the first meeting on Nov. 9 at DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State, ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 national poll, fell to 3-6 overall record.  Midland, who is No. 21 in the national preseason poll, improved to 7-2 overall record.

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first twenty minutes of the game, recording six ties and six lead changes.  The Trojans opened up with a 17-11 lead after a 3-pointer by Tanner Heiser with twelve minutes and seven seconds left on the clock.

The Warriors answered back with a 26-12 outburst to take a 37-29 lead with less than two minutes before intermission.

Kevin Daniels hit a 3-pointer as Dakota State trimmed Midland's lead to 42-37 by halftime.

DSU and MU each shot 50 percent from the field, with the Trojans making 16-of-32 field goals while the Warriors were 14-of-28 field goals.  MU was 5-of-11 3-pointers compared to DSU 3-of-9 3-point field goals.

After a field goal to put Midland up 44-37 to kick off the second-half, DSU went on to score four straight points by a pair of lay-ups by Heiser and Bobby Farquah to cut MU's lead to 44-41 with 19:05 remaining.

The Warriors went on a 9-0 scoring run to gain a double-digit lead at 53-41 with 16:36 left.  The Trojans could get no closer than eight points at 61-53 with ten minutes to go in the game as MU maintained double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Midland outscored Dakota State 46-31 in the second-half.  MU shot 58.1 percent in the final twenty minutes of the game, converting 18 field goals in 31 attempts.  DSU was 42.3 percent from the field (11-of-26).

Kyle Kilgore led the Trojans with 18 points on his 7-of-8 field goal shooting and made all four free-throw attempts.  Justin Folkers scored 12 points off the bench (5-of-7 field goals).  Heiser added 11 points.  Daniels scored 10 points.  Farquah tallied 8 points.  Marquis Chatman had 7 points. 

Brendon Boomsma dished out four assists for DSU.  Daniels added three assists.

Kilgore pulled down five rebounds for Dakota State.  Heiser, Daniels and Folkers each had four rebounds. 

Chas Parsons recorded a game-high 28 points off the bench for the Warriors.  He was 10-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-9 3-pointers and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.  Damon Overton added 16 points.  Alex Starkel had 14 points.

Nick Harden had nine points and nine rebounds for MU.  Starkel earned five boards.  Overton produced six assists.  Parsons stole the ball four times.

Midland made 32 field goals in 59 attempts in the game while Dakota State was 27-of-58 field goal shooting (46.6 percent).  MU was 8-of-21 from the 3-point line (38.1 percent) compared to DSU 3-of-16 3-pointers (18.8 percent).

The Warriors made 16 free-throws in 22 tries (72.7 percent).  The Trojans made 11-of-18 free-throws (61.1 percent). 

MU outrebounded DSU 31-26. 

Dakota State stays on the road on Friday as they open up the North Star Athletic Association conference play.  The Trojans kick off their four-game NSAA road stretch with a contest at Presentation (S.D.) Friday evening.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Strode Center in Aberdeen, S.D.
