ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) shot 49.1 percent overall from the field Friday evening in the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball conference opener at the Strode Center versus Presentation (S.D.).  The Saints drained 10-of-21 3-pointers and made 16-of-25 free-throws to propel for a 78-69 victory over the Trojans.

Dakota State lost their fourth straight game, falling to 3-7 overall record and 0-1 NSAA conference record.  Presentation improved to 3-4 overall record and 1-0 NSAA.

The Trojans earned its first lead of the game at 2-0 after a field goal by Kyle Kilgore with eighteen minutes and thirty-three seconds on the clock.  The Saints then went on to score 10 straight points to grab a 10-2 lead with 16:07 left in the first-half.

PC maintained their lead from four- to nine-points for the rest of the first-half.  Trailing 36-27, Kevin Daniels hit a 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to cut Saints' lead to 36-30 by halftime. 

DSU was 12-of-28 from the field (42.9 percent) compared to PC 11-of-29 field goals (37.9 percent) in the first-half.  Both teams made four 3-pointers.  The Saints were 10-of-15 from the free-throw line while the Trojans were 2-of-4 free-throws in the first twenty minutes of the game.

Dakota State kicked off the second-half with a 13-5 scoring run regain their lead at 43-41 after a 3-pointer by Tanner Heiser (15:41 remaining in the game). 

The Trojans kept their lead for over four minutes before the Saints overtook the lead for the rest of the game.  With DSU leading 51-50 after a free-throw by Daniels, the Saints went on a 10-2 scoring run to grab a 60-53 lead with 8:09 left.

DSU could get no closer than two points on two different occasions – 63-61 with 5:20 left after a pair of free-throws by Daniels and 65-63 after a basket by Kilgore with 3:48 remaining.

The Saints used a 13-4 scoring run for a 78-67 lead with less than 20 seconds to go in the game.  Kilgore made a field goal just before the end of the game.

PC outscored DSU 42-39 in the second-half.  The Saints shot a blazing 60 percent from the field (15-of-25), including 6-of-10 3-pointers.  The Trojans recorded a sizzling 55.2 percent from the field (16-of-29) and went 1-of-6 from the 3-point line.

Kilgore shot 10-of-15 from the field to score 20 points in the game for Dakota State.  Daniels added 16 points from the bench (5-of-9 field goals, 2-of-4 from the 3-point line and converted all four free-throws).  Justin Folkers tallied 10 points.  Bobby Farquah scored eight points.  Brendon Boomsma had seven points.

Folkers and Ian Barse each grabbed six rebounds for the Trojans.  Barse dished out three assists.

Four Presentation players scored in double digits.  Elijah Valdez poured in 24 points on his 8-of-12 field goal shooting, including 6-of-8 from the 3-point line.  Donnell Minton had 17 points.  Arroyo Edwards added 16 points and earned seven boards.  Aaron Samuels recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.  He produced five assists.

Minton registered three steals in the game for PC. 

Dakota State was 28-of-57 overall from the field compared to Presentation 26-of-54 (48.1 percent).  The Trojans were 5-of-18 from the 3-point line.    

DSU was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line (80 percent).

PC outrebounded DSU 33-27.  The Saints outscored the Trojans 12-6 in second-chance points.

DSU outscored Presentation 32-20 inside the paint and 26-4 in bench points.

Dakota State looks to halt their losing skid Sunday evening as they play another North Star conference game on the road.  The Trojans visit Jamestown (N.D.) at the Civic Center.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Jamestown, N.D.
