DICKINSON, N.D. – Leading by just one point at 53-52, Dickinson State (N.D.) used a 23-11 closing run in the final 8:59 of the game to earn a 76-63 North Star Athletic Association men's basketball conference victory over Dakota State (S.D.) Wednesday evening at Scott Gymnasium.  DiSU extended their winning streak to six games.

The Trojans, which finished their four-game NSAA road stretch, dipped their overall record to 4-9 and 1-3 NSAA conference record.  The Blue Hawks, receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, remained as the only undefeated team in the North Star with a 4-0 record and lifted their overall record to 9-4.

DaSU missed its first five shots of the game, allowing DiSU to score its first eight points of the game for an 8-0 lead with seventeen minutes and eleven seconds on the clock in the first-half.  The Trojans would answer back with an 8-2 lead to cut Dickinson State's lead to 10-8 with 14:12 left in the first period.

DiSU went back on another 8-0 run to earn the first double-digit lead of the game at 18-8, forcing the Trojans to call time out with 12:31 on the clock.

Trailing 25-15, Dakota State went on a 15-2 outburst to earn their first lead of the game.  The Trojans came back to gain their first lead at 28-27 after a pair of free-throws by Kyle Kilgore and extended their lead to 30-27 with another free-throw by Kilgore with 3:28 left before intermission.

Down by four points (34-30), DaSU closed the first-half with a 6-0 run thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Tanner Heiser and Kevin Daniels.  The Trojans held on to a 36-34 halftime lead over the Blue Hawks.

Heiser hit a 3-pointer to give Dakota State a 41-36 lead with 18:41 remaining.  The Blue Hawks answered back with a 9-4 scoring run to tie the game for the second time at 45-45 with 13:55 left.

Dakota State regained their five-point lead at 50-45 after a 3-pointer by Heiser and a field goal by Justin Folkers.  Dickinson State then went on a 19-4 scoring run to earn a 10-point lead at 64-54 with less than six minutes left in the game.

The Trojans could get no closer than four points at 67-63 with 2:05 remaining.  The Blue Hawks secured the game by scoring the final nine points of the game in the last 1:40.

Dickinson State outscored Dakota State 42-27 in the final twenty minutes.  There were a total of eight lead changes and two ties in the game.

Four Trojans scored in double figures, led by Kilgore with a game-high 20 points.  He was 7-of-14 from the field and made all six free-throws.  Heiser added 17 points where he drained five 3-pointers in the game.  Daniels scored 13 points.  Folkers had 10 points.

Kilgore earned seven boards and contributed five assists for Dakota State.  Folkers had five rebounds.  Hesier had two assists and two steals.

Marcus White recorded a double-double of 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Blue Hawks.  Jerry Shevlin scored 18 points off the bench on his 8-of-13 field goal shooting.  Ryan Clark had 14 points (7-of-10 field goals).  Terrell Butler tallied 13 points.

Clark had eight rebounds for Dickinson State.  Gilber Shojgree, Jr. added seven rebounds.  White registered three blocked shots.

The Blue Hawks shot 49.2 percent overall from the field (32-of-65) compared to the Trojans 39.3 percent (25-of-61).  Both teams drained eight 3-pointers in the game.

DaSU was 7-of-9 free-throws (77.8 percent), while DiSU was 4-of-9 from the free-throw line (44.4 percent).

Dickinson State outrebounded Dakota State 44-31. 

The Blue Hawks' bench outscored the Trojans' bench 25-3.  The Trojans scored 16 points off from DiSU's turnovers while the Blue Hawks scored 10 points off turnovers.

Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column Friday evening, as they return back home at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans continue their NSAA conference play, hosting Waldorf (Iowa).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
