THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University men's basketball team (9-10 overall record, 3-4 North Star conference record) looks to extend their season-high winning streak on Saturday.

· The Trojans conclude their first-half portion of the North Star Athletic Association conference schedule Saturday evening as they visit No. 22-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) (13-7 overall record, 5-2 NSAA record.)

· The Bruins are currently on a seven-game winning streak.

· Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Gordon Lozier Center (1000 Galvin Road South) in Bellevue, Neb.

UPDATE ON NORTH STAR STANDINGS

· Bellevue (Neb.) currently holds a half-game lead in the rugged North Star conference standings with a 5-2 record.

· Dickinson State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) are tied for second with 4-2 record, followed by Jamestown (N.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) tied for fourth with 4-3 record.

· Waldorf (Iowa) is sixth with 3-3 record, while Dakota State (S.D.) is seventh with 3-4 record.  Presentation (S.D.) is eighth with 2-4 record.  Mayville State (N.D.) is winless in six NSAA conference games this season.

TROJANS OVERCOME MSU'S RED-HOT SHOOTING FOR 82-76 NSAA VICTORY

· Dakota State (S.D.) overcame Mayville State's (N.D.) red-hot shooting in the North Star Athletic Association conference game on Jan. 6 at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

· The Comets were 13-of-23 from the 3-point line and shot 52.9 percent overall from the field, but the Trojans held on to an 82-76 victory for their season-high four-game winning streak.

· Trailing 38-34, DSU shut down MSU by scoring 10 straight points in the final 4:31 of the first-half to grab a 44-38 halftime advantage.

· Both teams show well above 50 percent in the first twenty minutes of the game.  Mayville State shot 56 percent (14-of-25), while Dakota State was 54.3 percent from the field (19-of-35).

· Leading 44-40, the Trojans stormed with a 13-1 outburst to earn the biggest lead of the game at 57-41 after a 3-pointer by Tanner Heiser with 15:09 left.

· Mayville State rallied back to take a 70-69 lead with 4:15 remaining.  Dakota State would close the game strong by outscoring the Comets 13-6.

· Five Dakota State players scored in double figures in the game.  Kyle Kilgore posted a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

· Justin Folkers and Kevin Daniels each added 17 points.  Heiser had 12 points.  Bobby Farquah scored 10 points off the bench.

· Farquah had seven rebounds for DSU.  Kilgore dished out three assists.  Daniels had two steals.

· MSU shot 27-of-51 from the field compared to Dakota State 30-of-63 (47.6 percent). 

· The Trojans converted 17-of-21 free-throws, with 15-of-17 free-throws in the second-half.  The Comets were 9-of-10 free-throws.

· DSU won the rebounding battle, outrebounding MSU 35-22.  The Trojans outscored the Comets 15-5 in second-chance points.

· Both teams will play their second NSAA meeting on Feb. 18 at DSU Fieldhouse in the final regular-season game.

TROJANS KEEP ROLLING

· Dakota State (S.D.) is currently on a four-game winning streak since Christmas break.

· During that winning streak, the Trojans won the Mike Miller Classic over Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) due to points differential.  Both teams were 2-0 record in the classic.

· DSU started the winning streak with a 78-74 victory over Southeastern (Fla.) on Dec. 29, followed by an 82-74 upset victory over No. 15 York (Neb.) on Dec. 30.

· The Trojans kicked off the 2017 year with another upset over NAIA's Top 25 team, defeating long-time rival and then-No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 76-67 on Jan. 2 at DSU Fieldhouse.

· DSU extended their winning streak with an 82-76 North Star conference victory over Mayville State (N.D.) on Jan. 6. 

· After the victory over the Comets, Dakota State recorded its fifth victory in the last six games.

DSU VERSUS NAIA'S TOP 25 TEAMS

· Saturday's game will be the seventh time this season that Dakota State (S.D.) had faced a team that is ranked in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll.

· The Trojans had won the last two games against NAIA's Top 25 nationally-ranked teams, including an 82-74 victory over then-No. 15 York (Neb.) on Dec. 29 and 76-67 upset win over then-No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 76-67 on Jan. 2.

· Bellevue (Neb.) is ranked No. 22 in the current NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll.  The Bruins are currently on a seven-game winning streak, with the last loss on Dec. 9 at Dickinson State.

· Points:  Tanner Heiser—272 points (14.3 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Justin Folkers—61.6 percent (93-of-151 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Tanner Heiser—38.6 percent (49-of-127 3-point field goals)

· Free-throw percentage:  Kevin Daniels—81.3 percent (39-of-48 free-throws)

· ReboundsKyle Kilgore—122 rebounds (8.1 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—74 assists—(3.9 assists per game)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—29 steals (1.5 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Kyle Kilgore—8 blocks (0.5 blocked shots per game)

DSU IN THE RANKS

· According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Thursday, Dakota State (S.D.) ranks 17th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.4.

· Kyle Kilgore is 33rd in the nation in field goal percentage (56.8).  He also ranks 38th in the nation in total rebounds per game (8.1).  He is 46th in defensive rebounds per game (5.7).

· Tanner Heiser ranks 40th in the NAIA in total assists (74), 43rd in total 3-pointers made (49) and 44th in total steals (29).
